The Festival

The lantern festival was in full swing, the streets alive with warm light and joyous laughter. Paper lanterns in shades of red, gold, and white swayed gently in the cool evening breeze, casting a magical glow over the cobblestone roads.

Children ran through the streets, clutching miniature lanterns shaped like animals, while vendors called out their wares, selling everything from sweet treats to trinkets. The air smelled of streetfood and spiced cider.

Alex stood outside the inn, leaning against the wooden railing of the porch. The room was hers to rest in, and though he was technically entitled to share it, he didn't want her to feel uncomfortable.

He understood Selena enough by now to know that she wouldn't relax completely if he were in the room. He tilted his head up, watching the lanterns float gently into the dark sky, each carrying a wish.
