In the magical world of Aetherus, Damon Grey is the weakest student at Aether Academy, relentlessly bullied and ridiculed for his lack of power and defiant personality. Yet, he endures the torment, clinging to his scholarship—the only thing providing him with the funds to keep his sick sister alive.

After a brutal attack leaves him near death, Damon encounters a dark viscous entity in the forest that fuses with his shadow, awakening the Living Shadow System. This strange power grants him unimaginable abilities but comes with a grim cost—a relentless hunger for souls and flesh to feed his shadow.

Now, with his shadow alive and insatiable, Damon faces a terrible choice: feed it to grow stronger or starve it and die with it.

In a world ruled by ruthless nobles, deadly monsters, and power-hungry demons, Damon must decide if his newfound power is a curse or the only way to survive. With the Living Shadow System, his fate is clear: devour or be devoured.

If I were to rate this myself, I'd say the writing quality is high. You won’t find mistakes—well, on the off chance you do, feel free to leave a comment. I’m only human, after all! I’ve worked hard to craft a world filled with danger, monsters, and realms waiting to be explored. To avoid overwhelming info dumps, I’ve woven lore into skill descriptions, artifact explanations, and quests. The system the main character gains isn’t your typical overpowered gift—it comes with dangerous abilities that don’t make his life easier. While he does get a golden finger, he has to work hard to survive and thrive. I didn’t want a protagonist who just gets handed his power. The system itself has a deep origin, and its purpose and how he got it will be revealed as the story progresses. For those wondering: there will be no NTR or Yuri, or anything unwholesome. The answer is simply no. Expect plenty of fantasy elements like different races, dungeons, otherworlds, dragons, and much more! If you like the story, please leave a review—any kind is appreciated. Minor Spoiler Warning (Proceed at Your Own Peril) Some readers wondered why the MC didn’t just feed his shadow with monster flesh by venturing beyond the barrier. In chapter three, I subtly explained why: the forest beyond the barrier isn’t a place for low-level monsters—it’s a death zone called the Evil Forest. The first monster out there would kill him in seconds. Venturing out was never an option. The lore of this dangerous zone will be explored as the story unfolds. If you have any questions, feel free to hit me up on Discord. I’m still working on creating a proper server, so any help would be greatly appreciated! 😭😭😭😭😭😭 Thanks for reading! Don’t forget to leave a review and share your thoughts.

If you enjoy edgy protagonists, this novel might be for you. The MC is not just edgy. He's a serial killer and a cannibal. As the title suggests, the MC needs to kill humans and devour their flesh and soul to level up. It's essentially an "Among Us" story, with students disappearing one by one in his school. Personally, I'm not a fan of protagonists like this. I understand that he’s poor, lonely, a victim of bullying, and a teenager with many problems, but that’s not a reason to become a killer and hurt other people. I just hope the author allows his character to grow, even though I can already smell a tragic ending. The "harem" tag seems out of place. It's as if the author added it to attract people to find his/her work. I think one heroine is enough for this type of story. Currently, there are three girls who want to be close with the MC, and one is trying to prove that the MC is a serial killer. Most female characters who approach the MC seem shallow lol. It's a typical self-insertion: "I'm so edgy and cool, I don't seem interested in you, but hey, if you the most popular and beautiful girl in our class forces yourself into my life and wants to close to me, what can I do, lol." So, here's the synopsis: The MC gets a golden ticket to attend an academy, receives a scholarship, and uses the money to help pay for his sister's medical treatment. However, he lacks talent in magic and combat ability. He only have unique skill to manipulating his shadows. After being bullied and almost killed, the shadow system activates. His shadow comes to life and forces him to kill and eat people, or he will die. As mentioned earlier, he levels up by doing so. The story will revolve around the MC trying to survive by killing people and hiding the evidence, as well as his inner turmoil and conflict as a killer.

Author wrote one of the most stupid and idiotic Mc ever. MC has one of the weakest mana 30 and next lowest to him is around 600ish and Mc also is stupid as in sucks at theory as well. In addition he goes around arguing with professors when he can handle it better. He also gets a system which can help him level up etc but then forgets he has a system. literally forgets he got something which can make him stronger and change his life smh. Instead of having some urgency to explore system he keeps putting it off and whining about how everyone looks down on him being trash commoner. SMH

Excuse my English, but I love reading so much that even a translator doesn't bother me. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS WORK FOR READING. I really like your writing style and the pace of the story. The text is not overloaded with details, but you can see the picture and feel the emotions of the hero. The conflict develops gradually and harmoniously. The dark atmosphere is palpable and captivating. The beginning is great, it hooked me and made me interested. I finally understood why it seems to me that all the hatred directed at the hero is not real. The rage of others is simply not motivated enough. If the hero was incredible in theory and it affected the rating. I would believe in bullying. The ‘aristocrats despise commoners’ excuse doesn't fit. As for teachers, I would believe in verbal abuse and beatings from students, but teachers... These are adults, they may hate the hero, but to preserve their own reputation they won't show it so obviously. That is, if a teacher humiliated a student whom I also dislike in front of me, I would certainly laugh, but I would also despise the teacher. So, to make it believable, we need to work even harder on teacher motivation. An intelligent teacher who simply hates the hero because he is a commoner and a weakling is not enough. An arrogant aristocrat obsessed with the traditions of blood purity and the reputation of the school who hates the hero because of the above mentioned shortcomings seems more plausible. In short, I think you went too far with the hatred, but that's not why I stopped reading the piece. For me, the work ended when the hero killed an innocent, kind hunter. The story of this man was revealed in full. The hunter was a good man, he even saved the protagonist from death, but he was killed and eaten. The protagonist did not try to find a new victim, did not try to send the hunter away, he ate what the man had cooked on the fire and then killed him in cold blood. Moreover, the protagonist then went to his daughter to talk to him. I don't know what kind of a maniac you have to be to kill a person and then go to his house, look into the eyes of a child and act as if nothing had happened. This is the most disgusting character I have ever met in my life. The hero deserves all that hatred and more, and I sincerely wish him to die in agony. Author, if the hero had at least tried to move away from the hunter to send him away, in short demonstrated that the hero was trying to avoid this sacrifice, I would have understood it. If the hero, after this sacrifice, had rethought his goals and adopted the credo ‘do not kill innocents’, i.e. learned a lesson, I would have accepted it. But the hero's philosophy has not changed because he said: ‘there are no innocents’. The protagonist is a maniac, a murderer and just a disgusting creature. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS WORK FOR READING.

My first time leaving a review on WebNovel and it’s for a book that isn’t even through its 1st arch (2nd arch?). I’ve quickly gotten absorbed into reading this story and I eagerly wait for every chapter. The writing quality and story development is premium. The beauty of ‘System’ stories (like Isekai) is that you have a lot of creative freedom to build a world while retaining relatable functions/characters that draw you in. Damon is definitely a relatable character, and the believability of his character/story development and the development of the supporting characters is perfect. I’m normally not invested in supporting characters as much as I am in this story, but that lends credence to the quality of the writing. If you are just now thinking of reading this book, then don’t hesitate. It’s dark and beautiful, and you’ll find yourself whimsically speeding through chapters.

This book is the worst of both worlds where the story is slow paced and not intresting at the same time. Yes it has some decent ideas but you really can’t expect your readers to endure through chapter after chapter of nothingness. I understand the author wants to show realism and wants to slowly build the MC’s personality but I really feel like there has to be better ways to do this. I wont lie the only reason I stuck till chapter 60 was because I really had expectations for the story. I felt I if I could just endure through the early despair phase of the book I would reach the ‘fun’ part and guess what there is no ‘fun’ part till now. The story is just too damn slow. Half of the time while I read the chapters I have to ask myself should I just skip some chapters cause nothing will happen or should I just drop the book cause I really don’t think the book will be worth it. Again you do you author, you know how best to write your book. But I think I have finally given up on this book, I really wished the book was faster paced.

Nice character development of the MC. Also the system is consistent not overpowered in an instant which is nice. But author needs to find a new feeding material like demons or monsters for the MC as this will become a villain story if he carries on killing humans.

I’m back and after reading to the latest ch I recommend the book If im being honest up until the locked ch it isn’t really interesting but beyond that it’s a really good book the main complaints are the slow pacing and the way the mc kills students repeatedly (their also nobles) the author should find a way to make an alternative such as killing monsters or just not kill ppl, they’d figure out the pattern of how it’s every two-four- eight days and so on because by the time he kills marcus he would have killed 4 students and there’s no way to school won’t take the investigation seriously and figure out it’s him at that point. Even if the school doesn’t figure out it’s him(Which is highly unlikely considering the student council pres found out in two mins talk less of the board and staff of the school)hed be caught as a mass murderer sooner or later.

The best fantasy novel I have ever read. Highly Recommended. If I had money I would have made this into anime. The World Building is amazing. Everything about this novel is on another level. Most of the novel of this caliber is ruined by extra romance or R18. But this novel doesn't focus on chip fan service. Keep going Author👑
