Chapter 18

They had been running for a while now and had finally made it back into town, though they weren’t anywhere near the restaurant.

“Any sign of him?” Harry asked, glancing over his shoulder.

“He must’ve stopped chasing when we entered the town,” Lucy replied, breathless.

Harry dropped to the ground, sitting against the wall of a narrow alley. “That was close.”

Lucy didn’t share the relief. “Alright, I’m done with this bullshit. You’ve got ten seconds to explain what the hell is going on!”

“If I had to guess, it’s probably the assassin Solomon mentioned,” Harry began. “He must have—”

Before he could finish, Lucy delivered a swift kick to his ribs from behind. Harry collapsed onto his side, letting out a sharp cry of pain. Small as she was, Lucy clearly knew how to hit hard.

The alley was empty. Nobody saw. Nobody cared.

“I’m gonna ask one last time,” she said coldly, now seated behind him on the ground, “what is going on? Tell me everything. Start with how you got here.”
