The journey back to the outpost was tense and silent. Each member of the team lost in their thoughts, the image of the crystalline abomination, haunted them. As the vehicle came to a halt, Matilda was the first to step off, her shoulders squared despite the exhaustion etched into her face.

Tobi followed, his gaze darting to the Vanguard survivors who had gathered to meet them. Their faces were a mixture of hope and dread, the latter becoming more pronounced as they noticed Matilda's grim expression.

"Any news from the council?" Matilda asked one of the soldiers standing near the entrance.

"They've called for an emergency session," the officer replied. "They're expecting your report immediately."

"Good," Matilda said curtly, turning to her team. "Hannah, get those samples to the lab. Neon, compile the data we recovered. Moritaka and Tobi, with me. We'll brief the council."
