The classroom was eerily silent, the kind of silence that felt alive with tension. Anita stood at the front, facing a small group of her classmates, all of whom had witnessed the chaotic battle against the spirits in the school courtyard the day before.

“Let me get this straight,” Lauren, the class president, said, crossing her arms. “You’re asking us to keep quiet about what we saw and... what? Join your supernatural rebellion?”

Anita winced. When Lauren put it that way, it did sound a little ridiculous.

“Yes,” she said firmly, forcing confidence into her voice. “I know it’s a lot to ask, but if this gets out, it’ll put all of you in danger. The people—or things—we’re fighting don’t play by human rules. They’ll come after anyone who knows too much.”
