CHAPTER 60 The Accusations

  "Autumn?" Ethan's voice was laden with yearning, his gaze intense as he awaited my response. There was a pleading look in his eyes, silently acknowledging the falsehoods but seeking my reaction nonetheless.

  I struggled to collect my thoughts, taking a deep breath to steady myself. Words jumbled in my mind, unable to find their way out.

  "Alpha, why are you doing this?" Jared interjected, his voice tinged with concern as he stepped forward, his eyes darkened with seriousness. "The newspaper is reporting real events. There's chaos outside, people demanding answers. There are numerous clips from that banquet. You were there," he emphasized, urging him to face the truth.

  Frustrated and overwhelmed, I shook my head vehemently and finally rose from my seat.

  "Not everything of it is true!" I exclaimed, my voice echoing with disbelief and indignation.

  "So, is half of it true?" Jared's question hung heavy in the air, his eyes searching for confirmation in mine.
