CHAPTER Sixty Four Recognition

  Derek's POV.

I got into my car and drove home, trying to shake off the thoughts of Elena that lingered in my mind. When I arrived, I headed straight to the bathroom, seeking a distraction from the emotions that swirled within me. I took a long bath, hoping to clear my mind, and then lay down on my bed, staring at the ceiling.

My thoughts drifted back to Richard, and I tried hard to anticipate his next move. But Richard was a cunning person, always staying one step ahead, making it hard to predict his plans.

As I lay there, I realized that keeping my distance from Elena was difficult for me but also necessary. I needed to protect her at all costs. She was all I had, the only one who had ever made me feel alive, loved, and cared for.

The thought of anything happening to her was unbearable, and I knew I had to do everything in my power to keep her safe, even if it meant staying away. This is the least I could do for her.
