CHAPTER 28: Accusations and Truths

  Hannah’s POV

The tension in the courtroom was thick as the judge prepared to announce the verdict. But deep down, I already knew how this would end. Christian’s performance during the trial had been flawless, there was no way Lyla could come out on top after how thoroughly he dismantled her arguments. Still, I couldn’t shake the nervous flutter in my chest as we all waited for those final words.

“And the court rules in favor of the plaintiff.”

Relief washed over me. It was finally over. The judge’s gavel echoed through the room, and I felt a weight lift from my shoulders. Christian glanced over at me and gave a small nod, his eyes filled with quiet satisfaction. I couldn’t help but return the smile, grateful beyond words for what he had done.

People began shuffling out of the courtroom, but before I could follow Christian out, I felt someone roughly grab my arm. I turned, startled, to find Lyla standing there, her face twisted with anger and desperation.
