That thought had been gnawing at me, and even if Dennis didn't leave me, I still didn't know how to face him. How did I get ready for my first night with him all over again?


Night fell over the camp, and not long after Doll left the room, I heard a knock at the door. "Ms. Miller, can we come in?" It was Kaia with two other girls.


"Of course, come on in," I said, trying to be polite. I wasn't used to being pampered like this.


One of the girls set a salad in front of me. I had to stick to the doctor's orders, so I started eating while keeping an eye on the others as they buzzed around my room.


Just like last time, they lit candles, set up hot water, and scattered flower petals everywhere. Kaia saw that I had put my plate down, so she came over to help me into the tub.


"Do I have to have help with this?" I asked Kaia, gathering my courage.


"Ms. Miller, it's our job to get you ready," she replied.
