Chapter 37 Dennis' Change

"If you were married, would you still come back to see me..." I stammered. "I like having you with me."

Dennis froze. For a moment, he just looked at me. Then he raised his eyebrows as if trying to figure out what I was saying.

"You're not as bad as you're rumored to be. You just don't want to reveal your true colors." I forced a smile. "I feel safe spending time with you."

"I won't cause you any trouble or interfere in your life," I said. "Just come and see me, just like a friend..." But when I actually said the words out loud, I realized I had no right to even think about it.

Dennis didn't seem to mind, though. His fingers cupped my chin and he shifted my gaze from his hand to his eyes. Then, slowly, he leaned down and took my lips between his own. The kiss was soft and gentle.

If I could deepen the kiss, I would respond to it. I was like a greedy child who wanted more good things. I always wanted more of him, but in the end, he didn't belong to me.
