The slow, steady buzzing filled my ears, but the pulsing in my head was trying to numb all my senses.
Gradually, I opened my eyes and looked around. I was at the hospital again, the one place I really didn't want to be.
The machines kept beeping, pumping fluid into my arm. It wasn't a pleasant sight. I hated lying in a hospital bed like this, feeling completely incapable of taking care of myself.
"She's resting now, and she's fine..." Doll's voice made me turn toward the partially open door.
I wasn't sure who she was talking to, but I had no doubt it was either Allen or Jessica. They always seemed to be around when I was in trouble.
"I can't believe this happened. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have let her go alone." Jessica's voice came softly. I hated the guilt I could hear in her tone. This wasn't her fault.
Allen's angry voice followed. "You know Dennis' rules, yet you didn't follow them."
