People started to leave the gaming area, and I could finally relax. Daniel and the other guys were still hooting and hollering over what had happened. Well, at least someone got some enjoyment out of it.
As the group departed, I felt my shoulders sag. It felt like things were never going to calm down.
It seemed that my relaxation was too good to be true because just as I was relaxing on the couch and preparing to ignore the outside world, Byron stepped up to me. Somehow, he convinced Criella to return to the deck without him—a miracle.
“What’s wrong, Byron?” I asked.
Byron was quiet for a moment, but it was easy to read his face after years of knowing him. He was upset. That much was obvious by how his hazel eyes darkened a shade, the browns in them much more pronounced than the greens. “I just wanted to make sure that you were okay,” he said after a long silence.
I blinked in surprise. “I’m fine,” I said. “Why wouldn’t I be?”
