I had been enjoying being alone in the sitting area, but it was as if everyone realized it and came over, bringing a deck of cards and demanding that a game of kings begin. I was going to get up and leave since I didn’t want to participate, but I ended up getting shoved by a random shoulder and falling into the seat beside Daemon.
He looked bored as usual but then smirked when he caught me glancing in his direction.
I was about to try and leave again, but then Byron sat on my other side, successfully sandwiching me and leaving me with no way of leaving discreetly. I gave him a sheepish grin and settled in my seat. Oh, well. Playing a few rounds of cards couldn’t be the worst thing in the world. It was just a casual game, after all.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Since these were businessmen and women playing, they decided that the stakes needed to be high to match their own intensity. I tried to ignore Daemon’s heated gaze as I looked at my cards.
