ROLLING CALF

ORIGIN: Jamaica

The Rolling Calf is one of the most feared spirits in the island's collection of "duppy" tales— ghost stories passed down through generations.

The Rolling Calf is said to be a demonic creature that roams the countryside at night, dragging heavy chains behind it.

The creature is often described as a large, black calf with blazing red eyes that glow like fire.

Some versions of the legend say it has a twisted, oversized head and lets out a 'blood-curdling' roar.

The Rolling Calf is believed to be the spirit of a wicked person who, on their death, was cursed to wander the earth in this form as punishment for their sins.

This could include thieves, dishonest people, or those who led corrupt lives.

The Rolling Calf is said to haunt lonely roads and dark pathways, preying on travelers who venture out after dark.

It is believed to chase its victims tirelessly, attempting to trap or harm them.

The only ways to escape the Rolling Calf are to throw salt or cross a river, because the creature is unable to pass any form of running water.
