As time passed, the days merged into one another. Adrian didn't return home for several days after leaving, and I didn't bother inquiring about his whereabouts.

On the third day, my phone lit up with a message from him. He claimed to be on a business trip and shared his location.

[Take care,] I responded. A bitter laugh escaped me.

Moments after sending my reply, a photo Sophie posted on Twitter caught my eye. The caption read, [First vacation in ages. Never realized how much I missed cotton candy! Someone insisted on treating me.]

The image showed Adrian's hand, still wearing our wedding band. Notably, Sophie's tweet location matched the one Adrian had sent me.

The ring on my finger felt like it was burning, so I removed it and tossed it into a drawer. From that point on, work became my sanctuary. I immersed myself in tasks to push away the turmoil within. When Adrian would come back became an irrelevant question, lost in the flurry of activity.
