Samantha's eyes were wide with excitement. "This could be the break we need in the case. Let's dig deeper and see what we can find out about this cult."
Ethan nodded in agreement. "I'll start researching the cult's history and see if I can find any connections to the victim."
Lexi's eyes sparkled with determination. "I'll keep working on my end, seeing if I can uncover any more clues using my powers."
As they continued to discuss their plan of action, Lexi's phone suddenly buzzed with an incoming text. She glanced down at the screen and her eyes widened in surprise.
"What is it?" Ethan asked, noticing the look on her face.
Lexi hesitated for a moment before responding. "It's a message from an unknown number. It says... 'Be careful, Lexi. You're getting close to the truth.'"
Lexi's eyes locked onto Ethan's, a sense of unease settling in. "What does it mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ethan's expression turned serious. "It means we're on the right track. Someone's trying to warn you off."
Samantha's eyes narrowed. "We need to take this seriously. Lexi, do you have any idea who could have sent this message?"
Lexi shook her head. "No, I don't recognize the number. And the message doesn't give any clues."
Ethan's jaw clenched. "We'll increase security around you, Lexi. We can't take any chances."
But Lexi just smiled and waved her hand dismissively. "I don't need any safety measures, Ethan. I can take care of myself."
Ethan raised an eyebrow. "What are you talking about, Lexi?"
Lexi's smile grew wider. "I'm a private investigator, Ethan. And I'm also a witch. I have my own ways of protecting myself."
Samantha's eyes widened in surprise. "You're a witch?"
Lexi nodded. "Yes, I am. And I'm not afraid of whoever sent this message. I'm going to keep investigating, no matter what."
Ethan's expression turned thoughtful. "Alright, Lexi. But please be careful. We don't know what we're dealing with here."
Lexi nodded, her eyes glinting with determination. "Don't worry, Ethan. I can handle myself."
Lexi, Ethan, and Samantha decided to focus their investigation on finding the vampire who had bitten the girl on the neck.
They started by canvassing the area, talking to locals and asking if they had seen or heard anything suspicious.
After hours of searching, they finally got a lead. A local shopkeeper reported seeing a suspicious person lurking around the alley where the girl's body was found.
The shopkeeper described the person as tall, pale, and with piercing eyes. Lexi's eyes locked onto Ethan's, and she nodded.
"That sounds like our vampire," Ethan said.
Samantha pulled out her notebook and began to scribble down some notes. "Let's see if we can find any surveillance footage of the area."
After reviewing the footage, they discovered that the girl had been in the alley just hours before her body was found.
But what they found next shocked them. The girl's phone records showed that she had made a call to an unknown number just minutes before her death.
Lexi's eyes narrowed. "I think I know what happened."
Ethan and Samantha looked at her curiously.
"I think the girl overheard something she shouldn't have," Lexi said. "Something that the killer didn't want her to know."
Samantha's eyes widened. "You mean she was a witness to something?"
Lexi nodded. "Yes, and I think that's why she was killed."
Ethan's jaw clenched. "We need to find out what she heard."
Lexi nodded in agreement. "Let's get to work."
Ethan, Samantha, and Lexi decided to pay a visit to the girl's friends to see if they knew anything about what she might have overheard.
They arrived at the local coffee shop where the girl's friends hung out. Inside, they found a group of teenagers sipping coffee and chatting.
Ethan flashed his badge. "We're investigating the murder of Emily. Were any of you friends with her?"
A girl with bright pink hair spoke up. "Yeah, we were all friends with Emily. What happened to her?"
Samantha's expression was sympathetic. "We're still investigating, but we think she might have overheard something she shouldn't have. Did she mention anything to you guys?"
The pink-haired girl nodded. "Now that you mention it, Emily did seem really scared the last time we hung out. She said she had heard something weird, but she wouldn't tell us what it was."
Lexi's eyes locked onto the girl's. "Do you know who she was with when she heard this thing?"
The girl thought for a moment "I think she was with her coworker, Matt. They worked together at the coffee shop downtown."
Ethan's eyes narrowed. "We'll need to talk to Matt. Can you give us his contact info?"
The girl nodded and pulled out her phone. "Yeah, I have his number right here."
As they left the coffee shop with Matt's contact info, Lexi turned to Ethan and Samantha. "I think we're getting close to something."
Ethan nodded. "Let's go talk to Matt and see what he knows."
Ethan, Samantha, and Lexi arrived at the coffee shop downtown, looking for Matt. They found him wiping down the counter, his eyes scanning the cafe as if searching for something.
Ethan flashed his badge. "Matt, we need to talk to you about Emily."
Matt's eyes widened, and he nodded. "Okay, what's going on?"
Samantha explained the situation, and Matt listened intently. When she finished, he took a deep breath.
"I think I know what Emily might have overheard," Matt said, his voice barely above a whisper. "We were closing up the shop one night, and I saw Emily listening in on a conversation between two guys. They were talking about something in hushed tones, but I didn't think much of it at the time."
Lexi's eyes locked onto Matt's. "Did you recognize the guys?"
Matt nodded. "One of them was a regular at the shop. His name is Victor."
Ethan's eyes narrowed. "Victor? What's his last name?"
Matt hesitated before answering. "I don't know if I should be telling you this... but Victor's last name is Valois."
Samantha's eyes widened. "Valois? As in, the wealthy Valois family?"
Matt nodded. "That's the one."
Lexi's eyes sparkled with determination. "I think we just found our lead."
Ethan's jaw clenched. "We need to bring Victor Valois in for questioning."
Samantha nodded. "I'll get the team to dig up everything they can on Victor and the Valois family."
Lexi's eyes gleamed with intensity. "I'll do some research of my own. See if I can uncover any connections between the Valois family and the supernatural."
As they left the coffee shop, Ethan turned to Lexi. "Be careful, Lexi. If the Valois family is involved in this, we don't know what we're up against."
Lexi smiled wryly. "Don't worry, Ethan. I can take care of myself."
Samantha raised an eyebrow. "You two ready to take on the Valois family?"
Ethan nodded. "Let's do this."
Lexi's eyes sparkled with determination. "It's time to uncover the truth."
