Somewhere in Mumbai – The First Stop

The taxi screeched to a halt. Literally.

The tires skidded, the car jerked forward, and Hughie almost face-planted into the dashboard.

"WHY ARE WE STOPPING?!" Hughie gasped.

Raju turned around in his seat and gave them the most dramatic look possible.

"BECAUSE, MY FRIENDS… you cannot go on an adventure in India… on an empty stomach!"

Deadpool clapped.

"YOU, my pineapple-shirted angel, are absolutely correct!"

Raju grinned. "I take you to best food in Mumbai! Family-run place. Very secret, very delicious, very cheap. No tax, no GST, only love!"

Alex raised an eyebrow. "This isn't just your cousin's restaurant, is it?"

Raju gasped, deeply offended. "Sir! How dare you!"

A pause.

"…It's actually my uncle's restaurant."

Deadpool cackled. "I KNEW IT!"

The Restaurant – Spices & Surprises

The place was small but homey. The kind of restaurant where the tables were slightly worn, the walls had random Bollywood posters, and the food smelled so good it could make a grown man cry.

They sat down, and within seconds—

BAM!

Plates of food hit the table.

Butter chicken.

Garlic naan.

Paneer tikka.

Samosas.

Some spicy-looking red sauce that Hughie was very afraid of.

Deadpool didn't hesitate.

"ALRIGHT, BOYS. TIME TO EAT LIKE IT'S THE LAST SUPPER!"

He immediately grabbed a handful of naan and just started inhaling food.

Frenchie took a bite. His eyes widened.

"Mon dieu… this is beautiful."

Butcher raised an eyebrow, took a bite of the butter chicken, and then nodded approvingly.

"Oi. This is actually f***ing good."

Kimiko just quietly devoured her food, clearly impressed.

Meanwhile, Hughie hesitated. He stared at the red sauce.

"…How spicy is this?"

Raju grinned.

"Not much. Only slightly deadly!"

Hughie gulped.

Deadpool, who had already drowned his food in it, gave a thumbs-up while sweating bullets.

"IT'S TOTALLY FINE, HUGHIE! TRY IT!"

Hughie took a tiny bite.

A moment passed.

Then—

His soul left his body.

"OH MY GOD—IT'S LIKE DRINKING PURE LAVA!" he wheezed, grabbing for water.

Deadpool howled with laughter.

"HAHAHAHA! WELCOME TO INDIA, BUDDY!"

As they ate, Alex leaned back, thinking.

They were in a less crowded part of Mumbai now, the urban side. The streets weren't as packed, and the air wasn't just 50% human body heat.

Now was the time to figure out their next move.

His status window quest had led them here. But it wasn't telling him exactly where to go next. Just that the artifact was somewhere in the city.

Which meant…

They were gonna have to find it the old-fashioned way.

Alex sighed, rubbing his temples.

"Alright. We need a plan. We don't know where the artifact is, but we know it's here in Mumbai."

Frenchie took a sip of Tea. "So, what do we do? Ask around?"

Butcher leaned back. "Ain't like we can just Google 'ancient artifact Mumbai' and expect a f***ing address."

Deadpool raised a hand.

"Ooooh! Ooooh! I vote we just follow the mysterious glowing thing! That always works in video games!"

Alex rolled his eyes. "Yeah, because it's totally that easy."

A pause.

Raju suddenly looked up from his plate.

"Wait, wait, wait. Artifact? Like… ancient thing?"

Alex froze. "…Why?"

Raju scratched his chin. "There is an old British cave system just outside the city. It was first used back in 1857 during the War of Independence. The British used it as a hidden outpost, but some say… it hides something older."

Alex's eyes narrowed.

"Where exactly?"

Raju grinned.

"Ah, that, my friend, is a very good question!"

And just like that—

The hunt was officially on.
