Chapter 22

Before Henry Mitchell could say anything, Chloe Morgan beside him suddenly greeted Sophie Lawrence.

"Miss Sophie, aren't you getting in the car?"

Sophie Lawrence didn't know why Chloe Morgan was going home with her and Henry Mitchell. But in this situation, she couldn't just get in the car directly.

Sophie Lawrence was full of doubts and bitterness in her heart. She unconsciously took a step back, looked at Henry Mitchell, and forced herself to endure the pain in her heart as she slowly said, "I'll take a taxi there myself."

Henry Mitchell raised his hand to check the time, and a trace of impatience appeared on his face. "By the time you get a taxi here, who knows how long it will take. Get in the car."

Sophie Lawrence stood still like a statue, not moving at all.

Henry Mitchell seemed to have run out of patience. Just as he was about to urge her again, a male voice suddenly came from behind.

"Miss Sophie!"

Sophie Lawrence turned to look at the Bentley parked behind Henry Mitchell's car. It was Jason Lu.

Jason Lu poked his head out of the driver's window. "Miss Sophie, where are you going? I'll give you a ride!"

Henry Mitchell watched as Sophie Lawrence walked towards the back. His brows instantly turned cold, and there was a trace of barely noticeable anger in his eyes.

Sophie Lawrence stopped in front of Jason Lu's car and asked softly, "I'm going to Sunny Heights Estate, Mr. Jason. Is it convenient for you?"

Jason Lu's face lit up with joy, and his eyes sparkled with surprise. "I'm going there as well. Miss Sophie, get in the car."

"Thank you very much," said Sophie Lawrence.

Sophie Lawrence was about to get into Jason Lu's car by walking around the front of the car, but when she reached out to open the door, someone grabbed her arm.

Henry Mitchell tightly held Sophie Lawrence's hand and coldly looked at Jason Lu. "Don't bother yourself."

With that, Henry Mitchell was about to take Sophie Lawrence to his car.

But Sophie Lawrence didn't want to. Chloe Morgan was in the car, and she was sitting in the front passenger seat.

For a moment, the atmosphere seemed to freeze, heavy and oppressive.

Just then, Chloe Morgan suddenly pushed the door open and got out of the car. She walked up to Henry Mitchell with a look of thoughtfulness and understanding on her face.

"Henry, let Miss Sophie sit in the front. I'll sit in the back."

Sophie Lawrence's face immediately turned pale. Her eyes coldly swept over Chloe Morgan, as if her eyes were ice picks that could cut people.

Henry Mitchell coldly asked in reply, "Is it okay now?"

Sophie Lawrence pinched her palm tightly, forced a smile at the corner of her mouth, pulled her hand out of Henry Mitchell's forcefully, and then got into Jason Lu's car without hesitation.

Once in the car, Sophie Lawrence immediately said, "Mr. Jason, we can go."

Jason Lu made a gesture towards Henry Mitchell and then drove away.

Since getting in the car, Sophie Lawrence had been quietly looking out of the window. Her expression was inscrutable, as if she was deep in thought or trying hard to suppress her inner emotions.

Jason Lu was very tactful and didn't disturb Sophie Lawrence. He just drove quietly, while Henry Mitchell's car followed not too far behind.

When they arrived at Sunny Heights Estate, Sophie Lawrence learned that Jason Lu was actually a student of Henry Sr. He had come here specifically to visit Henry Sr. this time.

Henry Sr. was a professor at a business school in Sunnyville, and every year many students came to visit him.

Sophie Lawrence had met quite a few of Henry Sr.'s students, but she had never met Jason Lu before.

Jason Lu touched his nose a little embarrassedly and said with a bit of apology, "It's a bit embarrassing to say this. I've been abroad before, and I just returned to Sunnyville this year."

Jason Lu was about to say something more when he was interrupted by Henry Mitchell who had caught up.

"Mom said let's bring a bottle of cooking wine back." Henry Mitchell was looking at Sophie Lawrence as he spoke.

Sophie Lawrence pursed her lips and looked at Henry Mitchell. "Let's go."

Hearing Henry Mitchell's words, Chloe Morgan's face almost immediately changed. Just now, she had been in the car all the time and hadn't seen Henry Mitchell answer any phone calls or reply to any messages at all.

Henry Mitchell was lying!

Seeing Henry Mitchell and Sophie Lawrence walking side by side towards the supermarket downstairs in the community, a look of ruthlessness suddenly flashed in Chloe Morgan's eyes.

Jason Lu beside her quickly noticed the change in Chloe Morgan's mood. He approached with a smile and said in a low voice.

"Little girl, it's not a good thing to covet someone else's husband."

Chloe Morgan's eyes flickered, and she shouted at Jason Lu, "None of your business!"

Having been shouted at after giving a well - intentioned warning, Jason Lu embarrassedly touched his nose and retreated to his original position.

Sophie Lawrence and Henry Mitchell quickly bought the cooking wine and also picked up some other things, which were for Henry Sr. and Henry Mitchell's mother.

Seeing them come back, Jason Lu and Chloe Morgan also turned around and took out the gifts they had prepared from the trunk.

The four of them got into the elevator together, but Henry Mitchell didn't bring his keys.

Henry Mitchell took the things from Sophie Lawrence and signaled her to knock on the door.

"Knock, knock, knock - "

The door was quickly opened by Henry Mitchell's mother from the inside.

Sophie Lawrence had just called out "Mom" when Henry Mitchell's mother grabbed Chloe Morgan beside her and led her into the house.

"Your aunt told me long ago..."

Sophie Lawrence couldn't hear what Henry Mitchell's mother said next. She watched as Henry Mitchell's mother held Chloe Morgan's hand intimately. Her mind went blank instantly, as if the whole world had stopped at this moment. All she could see was that hand holding Chloe Morgan's, which kept getting bigger in front of her eyes, stabbing at her eyes and heart.
