The remaining ride home was boring. Nicholas didn't say anything, and I didn't utter a word to him. He can do as he pleases with me. I'm tired of all the tears. It's getting too much for me.
I went inside the house the moment the car stopped. I didn't wait for him to hear whatever he wanted to say to me. Ms. Maya was already by the door, waiting. She pulled me in for a hug. "I thought I wouldn't see you again," she said.
I heaved a sigh. "I needed a break, and I thought it would be worth it."
"Was it worth it?" she asked.
I nodded. "It was worth it, but then things happened."
"I'm so sorry you had to go through all that. I've missed you so much. I missed having you around."
I didn't want to hear that man's name ever again. "I'm tired of all the pain he caused me."
She nodded and kept quiet. "I've prepared your room. It's the same as it was when you left."
