Chapter 11 - The Light Pen

Upon stepping out of his cabin after lunch, Hagrid felt the wind gently rustling his beard and the cooling weather upon his face. Then he looked down to see a small boy sprawled out on the ground before him with his arms outstretched and face down. A bit concerned he rushed over and picked up the young boy who he guessed was a first year with one hand.

His lengthy blonde hair pulled back as a headband held his bangs up while tired looking sea blue eyes stared back. The boy had a few beads of sweat while he lightly dusted off the grass clinging to his clothes.

"Oh, good I finally found you, Hagrid. I was looking for you to ask for some help from you." The boy said with a yawn.

"How can I help you and why were you face down in the dirt?" Hagrid asked.

"I wanted to ask if you saw some of these herbs in the Forbidden Forest and if you are willing to help me pick some." The boy replied, pulling a small note from his robe. "For why I was on the ground. Well, I may have gotten lost from the castle to here and ended up taking many detours for the last two hours."

Hagrid just shifted his eyes from the door to the castle and really began to wonder how the boy got lost from a near straight line. However, he remembers the professors talking about a new student who is brilliant with magic, but lacks a sense of direction and time management for selfcare. So he believes the small boy in his hand must be that student.

Taking the parchment as he decided not to pursue this matter much more. Hagrid's nose twitched as he looked over the list. It's not that they were hard, but quite the opposite as they were far too common.

"Well, I got them all. However, may I ask what you want them for?" Hagrid gently sat the boy down.

"Oh, I guess it's reasonable to wonder. Well I wanted to make this." Felix brought out more papers and handed them over.

Hagrid looked at it and besides understanding the words one by one and not when they were put together. He came to the conclusion that the Light Pen is some sort of enchanted item the boy was working on. However, it also required some alchemy required for the light or that what he guessed as he felt dizzy from the lines of texts.

"I don't really understand, but alright. Give me a moment and I can send you on your way." Hagrid handed it back.

"Do you mind if I sit for a while?" Felix looked a bit sheepish at asking this.

"Well, I don't mind, come on in and chat for a while." Hagrid rubbed his chin for a moment. "I got a feeling I will be seeing you quite often."

Felix just laughed lightly since this statement wasn't untrue. After all, who made the Forbidden Forest a treasure trove for magical herbs and creatures. While on top of that, why spend hours trying to search for things inside when he could just befriend Hagrid who probably knows where most things are.

A few days later after receiving the items from Hagrid, Felix sat in the Great Hall between classes. Due to it being between classes and eating time. The empty long tables allowed him to set his things around and allowed him to work.

Not far down the table, Angel was playing Wizard Chess against John. For they were curious on what he was doing and not much else to do for the moment. For they were all caught up on homework and have yet to really join any clubs.

After two failed attempts, Felix on his third successfully crafted the Light Pen. It was a simple pen that was more brush-like in appearance where the tip glowed as he activated it. Adjusting the pen slightly the tip shifted colors as he began to draw a simple, but amazing picture from his seat testing it out.

"Neat isn't it guys." Felix smiled at his friends.

However, Felix lightly froze as he found an old man sitting next to them lightly clapping. His eyes seem to twinkle in amusement over his half moon glasses as his beard face seems to curl up into a smile. All while his colorful robes sparkled a bit from the floating lights above.

"Indeed. What do you call this little object." Albus Dumbledore asked.

"I call it the Light Pen, sir. It currently has seventy two different colors and allows the user to write in the air." Felix replied, handing it over. "While there are spells that allow such, I thought it would be interesting and if I sell it. It might be popular among children who don't have wands and Professors."

Studying the pen in his hands, Dumbledore began to draw a simple smiley face. During which he figured out how to shift the colors. So the final result was a rainbow smiley face.

"It's very smooth and simple to use. It is also more appealing than the fiery lettering effect that Flagrate spell produces." Dumbeldore nodded, handing it back. "Now how does one erase it?"

Felix smiled as he just pressed a spot on the brush and lightly flicked his hand. Where his picture vanished as it faded away. Showing the last effect of the brush.

"I believe ten points to Gryffindor for making a novel item." Dumbledore smiled as he stood up and walked away.

"It's rare to see the Headmaster outside of meal time." John muttered, regaining his voice.

"Well, he is really busy. I'm more surprised at how easily Felix talked with him." Angel said.

"It's because he was the one to deliver my Hogwarts Letter." Felix replied. "Besides, no matter how powerful or famous he is, he is still just a person."

Angel and John just gave him a shocked look and shook in denial. Since in their opinion Albus Dumbledore was like a first rate movie star who they can only see through movies. Yet, they dine and have him as their Headmaster for the school they reside and learn in.

The next day after making a few more, Angel alongside him and John were playing around with the Light Pen. They began to experiment with the pen and figured out that even if they don't remove it. The light will fade after a few minutes after deactivating the pen.

So under their efforts, they added colored pictures all over the Great Hall before dinner began. From simple cubes houses to stick figures. The Great Hall had various floating pictures among its large space. During which, Felix brought out his limited drawing skill and drew a fight scene from Dragon Ball. While the series hasn't yet begun, most wizards won't care.

Upon seeing their handy work, John looked a bit afraid. For the entire Great Hall looked very colorful, truth be told. Even the staff table wasn't left untouched.

"Did we overdo it?" He asked.

"Overdo what?" Angel asked, confused. "Everything will fade within minutes after we deactivate the Light Pens."

Felix just nodded while he admired his artwork as he looked at the epic fight scene he drew. While he would love to do Frieza and Goku fight, it was just too long truth be told. So he went with Krillin and Bacterian. The fight was more of a gag strip, but not much he could do about it.

"Still won't we get in trouble?" John asked.

"We already did it and besides it's just a harmless joke." Felix waved his hand unconcerned. "Besides, it's a chance to introduce the Light Pen."

"Alright." John nodded as they found spots to hide.

It can't be helped, since if they get too far away, their pictures will fade quickly because the light pen will be too far away. Even now covering the Great Hall took quite a few trials and errors since it was just too big for the Light Pens.

For how they solved it, they figured out they can just attach everything, even if it is just a very thin line, they can expand to a greater range then the Light Pen should allow. Luckily, they didn't have to wait too long for students and a professor soon walked in.

However, while the students looked on in wonder, the professor did not. For the one that walked in was Professor McGonagall who looked a bit distressed. Never has she seen such a thing within Hogwarts and much to their sadness and hard work. She dispelled everything with a wave of her wand before more could see it.
