Harriet's Perspective

Silently, Vernon approached me and performed a deep, respectful bow.

"Miss Harriet," he addressed me, his voice filled with reverence.

His companions mirrored his action, bowing just as profoundly.

I offered a slight smile but remained silent.

The entire room fell hushed as they witnessed this unexpected scene, leaving everyone astounded.

Astrid rushed forward, bewilderment evident on her face. "Vernon, what's going on—?"

Before she could finish, Vernon swiftly struck her across the cheek. His eyes were icy, brimming with disdain.

"Did you assume I came to assist you?" he barked. "I only recently discovered your audacity in pursuing Miss Harriet's partner. I'm here specifically to address your actions!"

"What?" Astrid cradled her face, the imprint of his hand reddening her greasy skin. She looked both shocked and terrified.

"Are you unfamiliar with the Armstrong family from Washington?" Vernon questioned sternly.
