I hesitated. "Pardon?" I inquired, taken aback.
Marcus exhaled deeply, "Come on, it's pretty clear. Ever since we arrived, you've been sneaking peeks at him every so often, and he's been doing the same quite regularly." He explained.
I was stunned. "Hold on, he has?" I exclaimed without thinking.
Marcus confirmed with a nod. "I've noticed him gazing at you countless times."
"He's probably just keeping an eye on me, as any good friend would. Making sure I'm alright." I responded dismissively.
He scoffed. "Sure, and what's your excuse? Are you also watching over him, like a 'good friend'?"
I shot him a stern look, and he laughed, raising his hands in a playful gesture of innocence. "Hey, I'm not doing anything wrong, just pointing out what I've observed."
I let out a sigh, smoothing my hair carefully. "I apologize, it's...it's just...it's not straightforward." I replied, returning my attention to the ongoing awards ceremony.
