Whenever something is delivered to him, Makoto never refuses.
When Makoto and Rin came down from the sky, there was a red slap mark on Makoto's face.
"Did you really have to hit so hard? It hurts like hell," Makoto said, covering his face as they landed in an empty area within the village.
"That was my first kiss!" Rin huffed angrily.
"Well, it was also my first kiss with you," Makoto replied.
Hearing this, Rin fumed and kicked at him again, but Makoto dodged.
"You're the worst!"
"Didn't you enjoy it just now?" Makoto teased.
Rin's face turned red again, and she raised her hand to hit him. "Shut up!"
Thinking back to the earlier moment, she felt so embarrassed that she wanted to find a hole to crawl into.
The taste of kissing Makoto was undeniably wonderful—passionate and lingering, making her sink into it and crave more.
His kissing skills were too good—this definitely wasn't his first time.
What a scumbag!
Rin also recalled how he had removed her hands when she tried to cover her face during the kiss.
What a jerk!
Seeing Rin switch between embarrassment and anger, Makoto chuckled. "What's wrong? Are you still savoring it?"
His words made Rin even more flustered. She glared at him and snapped, "I'll just pretend I got bitten by a dog!"
Makoto shamelessly grinned. "If I'm the dog, then wouldn't that make you a female dog?"
Rin was so furious she couldn't speak.
She knew she couldn't win against him—neither in words nor in action... whether it was arguing or kissing.
She felt both angry and shy about the kiss—not that it was entirely unacceptable, but losing her first kiss to him felt like such a rip-off!
"I'm going home!" She turned around and took a step forward before stopping.
Rin felt unwilling to leave just like this.
She hadn't gotten any promises from Makoto, and everything that had just happened seemed to be nothing more than a moment of impulse between them.
She looked at Makoto and questioned, "You're about to get married, so why are you still messing with me?"
Makoto, however, countered with a question of his own, "Weren't you the one who came looking for me?"
"I..." Rin was momentarily at a loss for words.
"I didn't come to do this with you."
Makoto chuckled, "Then why did you come looking for me? To chat, take a walk, or to express something?"
"I... You bastard!" Rin realized he had seen right through her thoughts, making her feel both embarrassed and angry.
Makoto once again leaned in close, his smile teasing.
"I'm always here whenever you need me."
Need him... need him for what?
Rin bit her lower lip, Makoto wasn't wrong.
She knew he was getting married, yet she had still come to him on her own accord.
What did she want to express? What did she want him to know?
This guy was different from Kakashi and Obito.
Kakashi didn't like her and never responded to her feelings, while Obito was just a blockhead who could only say things like I like you without it meaning much.
That night at the frontline camp, when Makoto suddenly took her flying into the sky—no one had ever treated her like that before.
The jokes he made never truly angered her either.
She had never gotten any response from Kakashi, never seen any progress.
But now, suddenly, someone appeared who was no less capable than Kakashi—perhaps even better than him.
Someone who seemed to see right through her heart, who could give her a response without unnecessary words, taking action instead.
Rin always thought she was steadfast in her feelings for Kakashi, but sometimes she couldn't help but wonder—if Kakashi kept rejecting her, should she keep waiting forever?
Back when everyone believed Obito was dead, Kakashi treated her as if she were just an artifact left in his care by Obito.
That made Rin feel both heartbroken and helpless.
And yet, this guy in front of her seemed like a great choice—if only he weren't about to get married.
She should cut her losses in time and draw a clear boundary.
Rin took a deep breath and decided not to dwell on these pointless matters any longer.
"Let's just pretend nothing happened up there in the sky."
"Nothing happened?" Makoto grinned.
"So what? Are you planning to tell Kakashi in the future that your first kiss is still intact?"
Rin's emotions were in turmoil, and she snapped, "What else? What do you want? You're the one who did it and won't take responsibility."
Makoto tilted his head. "When did I ever say I wouldn't take responsibility? If you're willing, we can be together."
Rin was stunned for a moment. "But… you're about to get married."
Makoto nodded. "I know. My marriage is my own business—what does it have to do with us?"
Rin was momentarily dumbfounded.
How could he say something so outrageous with such ease?
After a brief silence, she suddenly let out a laugh, equal parts anger and disbelief.
"You're insane!"
With that, she turned and walked away without looking back.
Makoto watched her retreating figure thoughtfully.
He recalled that in this world, nobles and high-ranking officials could have multiple wives and concubines, but the women he had encountered all had rather independent minds.
But none of that really mattered—what was meant to be his would always be his.
...
After returning home, Rin locked herself in her bedroom, her mind in complete chaos.
Makotos words had filled her with anger.
When he first said they could be together, a small part of her had actually hoped that he would cancel his engagement for her.
That damn bastard!
Did he really think he could have three wives and four concubines and build himself a massive harem?!
Bastard! Bastard!
Rin hugged her pillow and furiously pounded it, venting her frustration as if she were hitting Makoto himself.
After exhausting herself, she finally calmed down, realizing that she shouldn't waste so much energy being angry over such a scumbag.
In front of others, she always appeared gentle and cheerful, but only when she was with Makoto did she lose control and act like a completely different person.
It was better to stay away from someone who could so easily manipulate her emotions.
Why had she been so foolish to save him on the battlefield in the first place?!
That damn scumbag!
Rin lay dazed on her bed, unable to stop herself from recalling the moment when Makoto had kissed her.
She didn't know how much time had passed until a knock on the front door startled her.
The sky was already dark—who could be visiting at this hour? Shizune? Kurenai?
Rin walked to the entrance and opened the door, only to find Obito standing outside.
"Rin." Obito smiled at her.
"Uh... I won't come in."
"…Is there something you need?" Rin asked calmly.
Seeing her composed demeanor, Obito suddenly felt that she seemed distant, and it pained him deeply.
"Rin, I've thought it through," Obito said slowly, his expression a mix of disappointment and forced cheerfulness.
"We... should just be good friends."
Rin's eyes flickered slightly, and her voice softened.
"Obito, it's good that you think this way."
"I really cherish having you as a friend, but the only feelings I can offer you are those of friendship. So I can only accept the kindness you show me within the bounds of friendship."
"If it goes beyond that, I'd rather distance myself from you. I don't want to hurt you."
Obito smiled. "Ah... I understand. I've been troubling you, haven't I? I'm sorry, Rin."
"I'll... I'll keep my feelings in check from now on."
Rin lowered her gaze and nodded. "Mm."
Silence.
Rin stood inside the house, while Obito remained outside the door.
He averted his gaze, unable to look directly at her. With a forced smile, he said, "I just came to tell you this... There's nothing else."
"Oh, right. You've been training a lot lately, right? Keep it up, Rin."
"Kakashi's been a jonin for a while now. The two of us need to catch up to him. I want to catch up to him, and you should too."
"If you ever want someone to train with, you can come find me. That's what friends do, right?"
"Rin, I... I..."
"Well, if there's nothing else, I'll get going."
Rin watched Obito's awkward demeanor.
Despite feeling a pang of guilt, she knew that short-term pain was better than long-term agony.
Suddenly, she called out, "Obito."
He froze, staring at her in surprise.
Rin smiled gently and said, "Keep working hard. I'm still waiting for the day you become Hokage."
"..."
Obito nodded firmly and smiled back. "Of course!"
Rin was as kind and gentle as ever, but this gentleness wasn't something he could have all to himself.
Rin treated all her friends this way.
He had always thought that he was special to Rin, but in her heart, the only special one might be Kakashi.
Would she like him if he became better than Kakashi?
If he became Hokage, would she finally see him differently?
As Obito walked away, he turned back to look once more—the door was already closed.
"I need to get stronger… Only by becoming stronger can I have Rin!"
Clenching his fists tightly, he made a silent vow in his heart.
