First battle with the Zombies!

" Shit!" I knew it was bad when I picked up readings all around me. The nano-suits battle system had already calculated everything and was giving me real time information about the movement within ten meter of me as a center.

The one that leapt with it's mouth open like it was trying to bite me was the first one to go down. The plasma rifle drilled through it's head like a butter making a whole from his mouth to his other hole poking through it to hit whatever was behind it.

These were not physical projectiles that would lose their momentum easily, with high enough frequency, I can jam it up that a single shot could level a building granted that the rifle would be lose all it's power and there was also a chance of it getting bricked completely.

" Look behind you, there is also a runner amids the crowd." Ariella warned me again. By now, I had accepted that whatever I was facing was not something that could be considered as humans.

From the looks of decay and the way of their primal amd incoherent mode of talking, I might very well be facing one of my worst nightmare: Zombies.

But I didn't have time to think about it as I injected the enhancing drug through the nano machines. As soon as the specialized drug hit my system, everything started to get slowed down for me.

The 'zombies' I was facing started moving in slow motion and I could feel a surge of power in my body like what I experienced countless times during battle training.

The drug would stimulate the nervous system and brain to give one a enhanced function on top of the power boost one would experience while wearing the battle suit. It was only used for emergencies and he felt like this was one as within few second he felt like he would become a road painting due to this zombie stampede.

" I am with you increase the power by thirty percent and airm for their heads. It seemed like what we learned in movies was actually true, the one that was shot in other places still shows signs of life." Ariella pointed it out to me.

It's not like I didn't realise I was too busy aiming and killing zombies to worry about what was crawling at my feet!

I didn't reply and kept my focus first killing the second runner after which it seemed like the battle got a lot easier. The zombies were still coming but these were as fast as the first one and their way of attacking was also predictable.

With the increase in power, I would line up two or three of those bastards and shoot through them to take them down.

Some were tall while others were short, the clothes on their bodies was so decomposed that it practically blended in with the decaying muscle making them look even more terrifying but as human beings had difference, their height was also different so sometimes to shoot the tall one, I had to waste one shot that would practically go over other's head.

With the drug in my system and the plasma gun doing it's job no zombie managed to get close enough to me to attack which was surprising given how many I had to put down in just few minutes.

" Their number seemed to be thinning out. I also hear less noise from the sensor." Ariella voiced chimed to pull him out of the zone.

" Maybe they are retreating? There must hundreds of bodies out here, the closest ones were the screaming zombies, rest didn't even have a chance to lunge at me." I said with some arrogance in my voice.

I have been through countless simulations facing a lot of different kind of enemies during training but against the harder challenges, I would barely pass.

There was nothing equivalent to zombies but those conditions were made brutal enough that even on pump full of stimulant drugs, one wouldn't be able to come out of it alive.

Heavily injured result was failure while light injury of either limbs with sufficient mobility was considered barely passed.

" You don't have to act so smug about it-" Ariella stopped mid-sentence like she froze for some reason.

" Ariella?"

" Wait!" She shouted, her loudest pitch yet. I knew something was extremely wrong that's when I heard it too a sound more primal and guttural than anything I heard in my life.

It wasn't high pitch like those earlier runner zombies but loud and like a roar of a beast, something that shouldn't exist on this planet.

" What the hell was that?" I asked readying my rifle again but Ariella didn't know what to make out of the noise. She didn't have anything to compare the sounds too but when she ran the analysis, she concluded that it was a new monster.

" You may have some company but I deduce that this will be much larger monster. I am picking up small seismic activity and it is getting closer to us by each second."

" What do you think I should do? Run in the opposite direction or hide for cover?" Something that was capable of shaking the earth wouldn't be small. At least of the size of a small building if close or a big cargo plane of afar.

" Run away and leave me here? I don't condone you leaving your partner, stay here and fight. Just increase the rifle power to sixty,no, seventy percent, I am sure that would be able to put anything down."

" Are you kidding me? You are just an artificial intelligence? I can recover your data from other sites but me? I will die only once and who would be interested in your metal body, they are obviously trying to eat me because they are fucking zombies!" I lashed out at Ariella as she had a habit of getting under my nerves like this.

But after thinking about it a bit more, the craft was the safest place for me. It had all the supplies and things I would need to survive.

I don't know anything about the city we crashed in and would have to scavenge for food and water which also seemed dangerous as I don't know if everything is contaminated.

Whatever turned these people into zombies could be a airborne virus. Without the battle suit, I would be infected in seconds not knowing what fate awaits me.

" Have you calmed down? There is no need for you to be scared. You have one job to stop whatever that thing is before it reaches the craft as I fear it would have sufficient force to damage the hull."

" Fuck it. You know, you are so annoying sometimes that I can't stand it but this time I will stay but don't expect me to cover your ass everytime we are in this situation. For fucks sake, you are here to protect me and the ship not the other way around."

" Yeah, yeah. Get ready. It's coming." She brushed him off like a child.

Theo waited for few seconds before he saw a large looming shadow move. With each step he would feel the ground shake as it got larger and larger.

He hoped it to entered the detection range but it kept getting larger making him sweat about if he would be able to take it down!
