Chapter 3

Charlotte jolted back to awareness at his cry, quickly releasing Ethan's hand and rushing to my aid. "Ethan, are you alright? I'm so sorry I couldn't shield you," she fretted anxiously.

As the staff helped me up, Charlotte noticed my head injury and berated them angrily. The employees stood silently, accepting her harsh words.

After venting her frustration, Charlotte embraced me tightly, her voice breaking: "Everything's fine now. I won't let anything harm you again."

Had I not witnessed it myself, her words would have convinced me I was her sole concern. But now, observing her charade, I felt only revulsion.

I would have given my life for her, yet she shoved me, the "sightless one," into danger to rescue Ethan. True, there was a safety issue, but without Charlotte's push, I wouldn't have been injured.

Fortunately, the structure was lightweight, resulting in only a minor wound.

Charlotte guided me inside and retrieved a medical kit. She watched me closely, and seeing I hadn't mentioned Ethan's words, she forced a grin and said, "Someone forgot to mute their phone drama. Those lines were so cringe-worthy."

I silently observed her deception, too exhausted to confront her.

She simply cleaned and bandaged my injury, apologizing: "I should have taken better care of you. You've just left the hospital and got hurt already. I'll prepare some restorative soup for you."

Shortly after she departed, a figure loomed over me. Looking up, I met Ethan's piercing gaze.

He stared intently, then asked: "Oliver, you're not actually blind, are you?"

Surprised, I glanced at him again, slightly perplexed.

Ethan sneered and explained: "Your behavior reveals you can see. When you got that fake watch, your eyes dimmed. Seeing my name on the contract, your eyes showed pain. When the shelf fell, you instinctively raised your arm to shield yourself..."

"These actions don't deceive me."

I laughed inwardly. I hadn't even tried to conceal it. Yet Charlotte, who professed deep love for me, never noticed. But Ethan, barely acquainted with me, spotted it immediately.

I remained silent.

Ethan continued muttering, puzzled: "Something's strange. Charlotte arranged that car crash just to transplant your corneas to me."

"I did regain my sight because of it, but how can you still see?"

I froze, a shiver running through me.

No wonder... I recall only minor scrapes and losing consciousness, my eyes unharmed, so why couldn't I see?

It seems the person I trusted most, Charlotte, secretly gave my eyes to Ethan.

Though my heart had long been numb, I couldn't help feeling the ache. All my genuine feelings were ultimately misplaced.

Ethan persisted, twisting the knife: "Oliver, since you can see, you're also aware that Charlotte's always loved me."

"Don't be fooled by her apparent devotion to you. She just wants me back."

"Look, I merely mentioned needing corneas, and she gave me your eyes."

"If you're wise, you'll disappear. That swan isn't meant for a toad like you."

He left with a cruel remark, walking away arrogantly.

But he was unaware that the recorder in my pocket was active, capturing everything he had just said.
