Chapter 78 - Fireworks and Fathoming

Isabella’s POV

I slept through breakfast and lunch that day, my body too heavy with exhaustion and my thoughts equally weighed down.

By the time I finally stirred, the sun had already begun its descent.

After I finished washing up, I exited the bathroom to see the dining nook table already covered with dishes.

My stomach grumbled faintly, reminding me that I hadn't eaten since lunch the day before, but my nerves had also settled like deadweight in my gut, and I wasn't sure if I could manage to swallow a bite.

Helga must have stopped by while I was in the bathroom. It was always either her or Sebastian. And I knew, for a fact, he wouldn't leave food behind without using it as an excuse to lose nearby and offer commentary.

I padded over and uncovered the tray. Warm roast meat, vegetables, and soft bread rolls. There was also a pot of tea and a glass of water. I carried the tray to the bed, sitting cross-legged with a plate in my lap as I picked at the food absently.
