A FOND MEMORY

~{LOGANS' POV}~

*

(SEVEN YEARS AGO)

"Isn't she a junior?" Someone asked and I looked in the direction at which he pointed just to find a young girl hiding and peeking at others.

"What's she doing here?" My friend, Joe, asked and was about to go meet her but I stopped him and observed her closely.

She would cautiously look around while making sure to hide properly so no one would notice her. Nonetheless, when her eyes landed on me, they went wide and she immediately went into hiding and I frowned.

"Oh, it's the halfcast," Joe said and was about to walk away when I stopped him.

"The halfcast?"

"Yes. Haven't you heard of the girl who was brought into our town by her mother who married a man from another land?" He revealed and I frowned even more.

"Isn't it against the law to let a halfcast in? And to not have any relation with people from other lands?" I asked in confusion.

"Well, the law changed. You can now relate with people from other lands and even visit them but they can't come to our land." Joe said and walked ahead, but I stood there as I watched to see if she would peek again but she didn't.

Did she run back?

In thoughtfulness, I followed Joe.

The next day, it was a showoff/cell activation day where the seniors will use their cells against the juniors in order to forcefully bring out their cells.

And to make it fun, each senior will pick a name of the junior they will be assigned to and they will stealthily make their move on them. But others like showing off so they would face them head on.

"This wooden box will be passed around. Take out a folded piece of paper from it and give the box to the next person," the teacher instructed before giving the first person the box.

It kept being passed on to one another until it got to me and I took a folded piece of paper before handing the box to another person.

When I opened it, I frowned because it turned out to be a girl.

"Frances Franklin," I whispered the name and my friend heard it.

"Wow, you picked the halfcast," he revealed and my eyes slightly widened.

"Her name is Frances?" I asked and he nodded.

"However you wish to proceed please do it now but remember, DO NOT BULLY THEM." The teacher stressed on the last line and we answered in agreement before strategizing how we would approach them.

"How do you plan on approaching her, Logan?" Joe asked.

"I plan to frighten her," I truthfully said.

"Come on, that's harsh," Joe frowned.

"That's the only way to truly activate their cells, that is how my father activated mine remember?" I reminded Joe and he sighed.

"She has been through a lot on her own side. Why do you want to make it more difficult for her?" He tiredly asked but I remained silent.

~{FRANCES' POV}~

I was a half cast but I was beginning to feel like an outcast due to how I was being treated.

I had no friends because no one wanted to hang around me but I had a crush which I liked very much.

During my free time, I would run to the Senior area and peek at him to my heart's content but today, he was nowhere to be seen.

Today was what they called the showoff/cell activation day and so far, no one had approached me to help me bring out my cell. I didn't want to hang around the main area because I will only get jealous and feel like crying.

As I walked along a quiet place, with little to no people walking around, a boy my age who was walking ahead of me suddenly stopped and turned around. His eyes were completely grey as he slowly lifted his arm and pointed a finger at me, causing me to stop in confusion.

"Run," he said but I frowned.

When I remained unmoving, he took a step and another before running towards me and I quickly turned and started running until I bumped into someone.

When I looked up, I found another teenager staring down at me with her head tilted to one side. Her eyes were grey and she smiled eerily.

"Going somewhere?"

At that question, she grinned and I quickly scrambled away but my face was suddenly covered by a black cloth and the next thing I knew, I was lifted up off the ground.

In fear, I began to scream and struggle but they didn't budge and it further increased my fear.

After a while, I was dropped and when nothing happened, I quickly took off the black cloth and looked around just to find myself in an empty hallway.

Could this be the senior area? I wondered because it was different from ours.

I slowly stood up while carefully looking around. When I walked in a specific direction, I heard footsteps and as I got closer, I froze when I found almost twenty students standing like mannequins with their eyes focused on me.

As I looked at each and every one of them, I noticed that they all had grey eyes which was terribly strange and a big red flag.

A girl slowly lifted her arm and pointed at me before saying in a boy's voice, "Catch her."

In horror, I took to my heels and they followed while laughing in different voices.

"Help!!! Help!!!" I began to scream when I felt them slowly catching up on me.

"No one's going to hear you, little girl," one of them said but I refused to look back.

Suddenly someone caught me and we both fell to the ground. As I tried to make whoever it was to let me go, it was then I realized we were no longer in the hallway, rather, we were on a road.

"Let me go!!!! Let me go!!" I screamed and scratched the person but he refused to let go and I had to struggle until I released myself from his grip and continued running.

When I turned back, I noticed that the teenager simply stood like a zombie while watching me.

Without giving it much thought I kept running along the road and it was then I realized we were in a deserted road where no one passed. Out of nowhere, I heard a vehicle driving far behind but when I turned, it was not far from where I stood and I gasped in shock and quickly ran off the road only for it to follow me and cause me to trip and fall.

When I turned to see how close it was, my eyes went wide in horror and that was when someone grabbed me and I found myself in another place again.

This time around, I was standing close to a river bank.

As I tried to grasp what was happening, I was suddenly pushed and before my body hit the water surface, I caught sight of the person's face and my heart seemed to have stopped.
