~{LOGAN'S POV}~
*
When she didn't make an effort in swimming to the surface, I sighed.
I had expected her cell to get activated after everything I made her face, yet nothing happened.
Could it be that since she was a half cast then she might not have a cell at all or could it be that she didn't have a complete cell?
I quickly jumped into the water when she made no effort in swimming and strangely, I didn't find her.
When I couldn't search any further, I was about to swim to the surface when something held my leg, hindering me from going any further.
Relieved, I looked to see if it was her only to find a weird creature staring back at me with its sharp fangs baring at me.
In fright I quickly teleported myself out of there and back to the river bank only to realize I didn't come out alone.
"Get off me!!!" I tried to get it off but it bit my wrist so much that it bled and I screamed so hard. But after a while, it stopped and moved away from me and I quickly scrambled away with wide eyes as I took in the sight of it.
It was a sea creature they call a mermaid. It had a fish tail and a human body which was covered in scales.
I felt like I couldn't breathe as I watched it but strangely, it wasn't looking at me. As I cautiously followed its line of sight, I found another mermaid which was a stark resemblance to it, staring right at me while seated at the bank of the river.
I couldn't move or even shout as I sat there in disbelief. Mermaids were myths so how were they here of all places? How?
"It's you right?" The mermaid asked and her tail instantly transformed to human legs.
When she got up and walked towards me, I shivered in fear but waited to see what it would do. If it was going to harm me, I would instantly teleport us back to the school so I can show others what I found. At the same time my eyes moved back to the river as I got reminded of Frances, I could leave her there. What if she was dead?
At the thought of her dying, my body shivered in fear.
When the lady mermaid got to me, she squatted and touched me and the strangest thing happened. The moment she touched me, she changed into me.
I gasped as I found myself staring at my doppelganger. It was so weird and terrifying.
"You may go back to your realm," she instructed and the other mermaid crawled back into the water.
Confused, I sat there in wonder.
"Why did you do that to me? Was it necessary to scare me?" She, I mean my doppelganger, inquired but I was too stunned to respond.
In a swift movement, we were suddenly teleported back to the school premises and my doppelganger went unconscious.
But that wasn't it. She changed back to the very junior I was assigned to, the timid Frances Franklin.

~{FRANCES' POV}~
I quickly jerked wide awake in alarm and someone touched me in a hurry, causing me to nearly jump.
"You're safe," he said and I went completely still when I found my crush staring back at me with so much concern and worry.
"Are you really Frances?" He carefully inquired and I frowned.
"What?" I slowly asked.
He gave me a weird and cautious look before asking a question.
"Can you recount what happened earlier?"
At his question, I frowned but went on to tell him what happened and the more I spoke the more everything kept flooding into my mind, reminding me of how scared I was up until when he pushed me into a river.
"Don't you remember what happened after that?" He carefully asked but I shook my head.
"Don't you remember being a mermaid?"
"A mermaid?" I slowly asked and frowned at him. Without saying more on it, he observed me closely before revealing something.
"You can shift."
"Shift?"
"Yes. You changed into a mermaid and then me," he told me and I gasped in disbelief.
"A mermaid?"
"Yes. A real one."
"But they're myths," I said and he scoffed.
"Well, turns out they are not. We'll go to that same river some other time to check if it's still there," he suggested but I shook my head in fright.
After a while, silence settled between us and he kept staring at me but I refused to look at him.
"Tell me your name," he said and I did so.
"Frances Franklin."
"What's your mother's name?"
His question was strange but I still answered.
"Prudence Franklin."
"Who's the chief officer in the industry of magic?" He asked and I gave it a thought before saying, "Officer Greene."
At my response, he sighed but asked a final question.
"How old are you?"
"13,'' I answered.
"I'm sorry I pushed you that hard. I just wanted to bring out your cell but it backfired. Can I call my friend to check something out?"
At his question I nodded and he hurried outside and returned in less than a few seconds with another boy like him.
When the boy saw me, he smiled.
"Hi Frances."
"Hi," I answered while trying to figure out what was going on.
He sat where Logan once sat and stared right into my eyes before asking a question.
"Are you really Frances?"
"Yes," I responded and it felt like I was in some sort of a trance.
"Do you remember changing into a mermaid?"
"No."
"Do you remember changing into Logan?"
"No," I truthfully answered and he sighed before facing Logan.
"She's telling the truth."
In silence, I watched Logan look at me weirdly.
His friend held my hand and I looked into his eyes in confusion.
"Shift," he ordered and I frowned but when I saw him gasp and move away while Logan's eyes widened, it was then I knew something must've happened.
"You look just like me," he said in disbelief and I quickly stood up only for me to feel something strange in my private area. Something was dangling and I froze in horror.
Confused, I hurried into the restroom since we were in the infirmary and quickly went to the mirror just for me to go completely still in shock.
It took a while for me to digest what I was seeing. I had truly changed into Logan's friend. I looked like his doppelganger.
Whoa!
It was frightening and fascinating at the same time.
Nonetheless, when I tried to change back to my normal self, I couldn't.
I quickly hurried back with worry etched on my face.
"I can't change back," I panicked.
"You can't?" Logan asked and came close to me.
"Try harder, after all it's your first time," he advised and I did so but couldn't.
"You're forcing it," Logan's friend said and I looked at him for help.
"Looking at you is freaking me out, you know. It's weird to have a doppelganger." He said and got up.
"I was in your shoes Joe and believe me when I say it's not funny," Logan said and I felt sorry but at the same time he was to be blamed for pulling off that stunt. But how was he able to control so many people and move places?
Could it be that he possesses two cells?
They taught us about cells and this was the first time I was experiencing this kind of cell.
Holding my hand, his friend asked a question.
"Do you remember how you look?"
"I do."
"Then change back into her," he ordered and in an instant I felt myself shift back.
"Seems like you need a white cell at your reach since you can't fully control it," Logan suggested.
"My mother is a White cell," I quickly informed them.
