City of the Beast Sub-region

Raikisha's flight was swift, and within a few hours they were outside the human sub-region and entered the territory of the beast sub-region. Anon had lost his smartphone, so now he couldn't check the news online until he got a new one. However, he decided to postpone the purchase of a new smartphone for later.

Anon was not familiar with the name of the city of the beast sub-region in Region No.07. But to his surprise, Raikishi knew exactly where this city was, and they quickly reached it.

A city that was under the rule of a beast lord was very different from a city for humans. There was no machinery, no cars, no electricity. All the buildings were built of stone and wood, the streets were paved with stones, and old oil lamps and torches were used for lighting.

The contrast between the cities of humans and beasts was especially noticeable to Anon. For a person who was born and raised in a modern metropolis, it was like traveling back in time, several centuries ago.

"Amazing, isn't it?" asked Raikishi, noticing the surprise on Anon's face.

Anon just nodded in agreement.

"This city is under the rule of the beast lord. This is the result. In contrast, human cities are closely interconnected, and your so-called modern technologies can be found everywhere. However, in the beast subregions, all cities are similar to this one, although there are exceptions, but there are not many of them. Most of the beast lords are not interested in modern technology, they are more attracted to simplicity and wild nature," explained Raikishi.

Another striking difference between this city and the city of people was that both humans and beasts could be found on its streets. It was obvious that not only representatives of beasts, but also humans lived in this city.

Without the participation of humans, the beasts would not have been able to build this city, and they were vital to its functioning. Most of the people in these cities are locals who have been living under the command of the beast lord since birth and are used to this way of life.

Just like in the human city, there were beasts tamed by humans, as well as people who served the beast lords. Although these people served the beast lords, they had every right to be considered residents of the federation. They follow the rules and laws of the federation while serving the beast lord.

"As you have already understood, the world outside the central cities of people who are equipped with modern technologies and protected from all dangers is much more complicated than you could imagine," added Raikishi.

"You need to get used to it. You've lived in a safe city all your life. Nowadays, young beast tamers are surrounded by too much comfort. They can't even imagine how different the living conditions are in cities where beasts live and in wildlands. Not to mention other continents, where the situation may be even more difficult."

Anon felt as if he had entered a completely different world. The difference was so dramatic that he couldn't even imagine it. It was only now that he realized how limited the information on the Web was. It has been carefully filtered. There were no details about the beast cities in the subregions, nor information about the countries on other continents.

For some reason, the government hides such news from ordinary citizens, leaving them in the dark. They only spread information about other countries and cities belonging to humanity.

Anon couldn't understand why the government was hiding such important news.

"What's the situation in the cities on the continent of beasts?" asked Anon.

"Hmm, what do you think?" — I answered Raikishi's question with a question.

"I suppose the situation is even worse there?" suggested Anon after a moment's thought.

"Of course," Raikishi agreed. "The cities on the beast continent are even more chaotic and behind the times than the beast cities on this continent. People mostly build houses there because they need a roof over their heads. But beasts don't need houses like yours. This city is more or less developed because it is located on a continent where people rule."

Anon began to understand. He used to think that all cities were similar to each other, but now he realized his mistake. The continent of beasts is dominated by beasts. There are people there too, but there are not as many of them as on this continent.

The beasts on the continent of Skadria, both wild and those called the beast lords, prefer to live in their natural environment. There are no recorded cases in history where beasts could transform into humans, so they don't need to build cities like humans do.

"I believe you have realized that the so-called communications and the Wed are only available within a sub-region owned by people. In beast-dominated sub-regions and in a neutral sub-region, you won't be able to use the Web. Therefore, there is no need for a smartphone at the moment. You will need it only when you return to the territory controlled by humans," added Raikishi.

After giving Anon time to process the new information, Raikishi dropped rapidly and entered the city unnoticed. Finding a secluded spot, she dropped off Anon and Susa, and she shrank in size and jumped on Anon's shoulders.

"Let's find an inn. Although the city is ruled by the beast lords, every city has taverns and inns to serve visiting merchants and travelers. Besides, you can exchange information in such places," Raikishi suggested using her mental strength.

Then she settled comfortably on Anon's shoulders, wrapping her tail around his neck, which greatly surprised Anon. Somehow, Raikishi hid the other seven of her tails, leaving only one.

Susu had been standing in a stupor the entire time, remaining silent and staring intently at her ancestor.

"No, no… Another unforgivable act," Susu cursed her ancestor in her mind. If her gaze could shoot fire, she would have burned through her ancestor. Jealousy oozed from her.

"Well, well, calm down, Susu, — Anon said tenderly, hugging her and trying to calm her down. He liked Susu's possessive attitude. It told him how much she valued him.

When Susu recovered a little, they went in search of an inn or tavern, following the instructions of Raikishi. It was already dark on the streets, and there were almost no passersby in sight. Only the beasts, accustomed to the nightlife, wandered in search of adventure.

Anon didn't know how to talk to them and ask about the inn. But Susu, taking the initiative, quickly ran up to one of the black wolves passing by and, using a beast tongue, barked.

The wolf, noticing Susu, was surprised at first, but then, realizing that she was not yet an awakened beast, calmed down. His gaze became sharp and slightly contemptuous. The wolf himself was an awakened beast lord of the first rank.

In response to Susu's question, the wolf let out a sharp bark several times, and then, with a snort, continued on its way. For Susu, this was his first attempt at communicating with another beast, especially an awakened one. She froze in disbelief, and then, turning to Anon, lowered her head in shame.

"Heh,— Raikishi said with a smile.

"What happened?" asked Anon, not knowing the beast language and not understanding what the wolf said.

"That wolf just sent Susu to hell," Raikishi said with a dangerous note in her voice. Her eyes narrowed dangerously, and she looked in the direction where the wolf had gone. "And it would be fine if he only mentioned her, but this damn wolf also mentioned her ancestors!"

"Damn!" said Anon mentally, starting to pray for this wolf.
