Chapter 12 - Entrance exam (8)

Inside a hall in the floor above, five beings sat casually around the hall, their gazes fixed on the screen in front of them.

The atmosphere in the room was tense. Even more tense than one would expect.

The servants in the room didn't dare move or do more than what was necessary, as the beings in this room could kill them with a flick of their fingers.

BAM!

Suddenly the door burst open and a brown haired figure marched inside.

"Greetings gentlemen and ladies". Adam spoke to the figures seated currently.

They responded with a simple nod of their head, their eyes remaining glued to the screen.

Adam decided to find himself a seat in the meantime.

"Still..." One of the figures spoke out, "This year's examinees are real monsters aren't they?"

Another one of the figures also nodded their head and added, "Particularly that top five. Monsters all of them".

They all nodded at his words, their eyes on the screen where a white haired girl, blonde haired boy and blue haired girl slaughtered monster after monster.

"Hmph..". One of the figures smirked as he looked at another figure with white hair.

"I'm surprised, you didn't use a recommendation spot for her Linus."

The white haired figure, Linus, narrowed his eyes at the blonde haired figure before speaking, "Normalize minding your own business, Mikhail".

The blonde figure, Mikhail, simply grinned at Linus' words. He was about to throw another jab at him before he heard a female voice call out to him.

"Enough of this, Mikhail. You're a general. Act like one". The female voice said in a stern tone.

Mikhail turned to look at the woman behind said voice. She looked to be somewhere around forty with green hair and green eyes.

"Huuuhh? And who are you to lecture me?" Mikhail asked in an annoyed tone.

"Behave Mikhail." This time, Linus was tye one who spoke.

Mikhail's brow twitched in annoyance. He was about to stand up when a voice resounded in the room.

"Enough with this petty banter. You're grown adults for crying out loud. Generals at that. Behave yourselves". The voice spoke out beratingly.

The three generals looked at the man who spoke just now with incredulity on their faces.

"Oi. Lancelot. Who the hell died and made you our boss huh". Mikhail spoke in an annoyed tone, no an angry one this time.

The man with golden hair, Lancelot simply glanced at him without saying anything.

But this attitude of his only angered Mikhail as he stood up finally.

"You think you're such a hotshot don't you". He said in an angry tone.

Lancelot said nothing, only activating his implant on the back of his neck as Mikhail did the same.

BAM

"OK... Let's all take a breath here." Adam intervened this time.

"General Mikhail, I'm sure Major Lancelot didn't mean to say any of the things he did." He said trying to appease Mikhail.

He then turned to Lancelot. "And Major Lancelot, I know you were trying to just calm them down. But still... the things you said were a bit insulting to the generals. Please apologise".

"Haaa. Fine." Lancelot grumbled, then turned to face the three generals and spoke. "My words were quite rude, considering that I was speaking to generals. Please forgive my rudeness".

"Hmph". Mikhail simply sat down and threw his face to the side. "Forgiven. But next time I won't let that slide."

"Haa." Lancelot heaved a tired sigh.

Haa

Adam heaved a sigh of relief. If Lancelot and Mikhail or worse Lancelot and all three generals had started fighting, he would've had to intervene.

Otherwise, forget the academy, the entirety of Eden would be reduced to rubble from a fight between them.

Infact a fight between anyone in this room and each other would level Eden.

Afterall this room was the room reserved for the strongest soldiers of Terra. The Class six soldiers. The generals of the Terran military.

*************

Nathan sprinted through the forest, his senses on high alert, scanning his surroundings for any sign of movement.

His nano-tech suit hummed softly, its advanced sensors and enhanced strength allowing him to move with incredible speed and agility.

He couldn't help but feel like luck was playing a weird game with him.

On one hand, he'd been navigating this forest for hours, and yet, he'd barely encountered any beasts worth fighting.

The few he had stumbled upon had been ridiculously easy to take down, but they'd been so low-level that they hadn't made a dent in the rankings.

Well at least they helped him get the hang of fighting.

"I need to step up my game," Nathan thought, pushing himself to move faster, to search more efficiently.

His suit's advanced scanning technology helped him track down the faint energy signatures of the beasts, but so far, none of them had been the high-level opponents he was looking for.

As he ran, the forest floor blurred beneath his feet. His suit allowed him to leap over roots and rocks with ease, and its enhanced strength enabled him to plow through the underbrush like it was paper.

Despite the suit's advantages, Nathan knew he couldn't rely solely on tech to get him through this exam.

He needed to stay sharp, to anticipate and adapt to whatever the forest threw his way.

And then, just as he was starting to think that this day was going to be a total waste, his suit's scanners picked up something big. Something worth fighting.

Nathan's heart rate spiked as he homed in on the energy signature.

This could be it – the fight that would catapult him up the rankings and bring him one step closer to passing this exam.

He looked at the rankings list once more.

'Damn it'. Looking at his ranking, that was the only thing that came to Nathan's mind.

Examinees had already started eliminating each other for their points.

He then looked at the timer.

[2:20:55]

'Shit. Looks like I might have to go find one of those Fantasian prisoners afterall.' He thought grimly.

He wanted to avoid fighting a Fantasian soldier all on his own. Why? Because he had zero fighting expertise.

And while he can try winging it for beasts, he can't do that against experienced intelligent war soldiers.

But at this point, it didn't seem like he had much of a choice.

Before another student would come and eliminate him, he would take the chance to kill one of the prisoners of Fantasia.
