"You're really something brother." said looking at Alexander in disbelief.
"A cold hearted person like you fell for an equally cold person and they say opposites attract."
"You seem familiar with her."
"I've never met her but based on what many of the lecturers and postgraduates who were her juniors would say is that she is particularly cold to anyone she has no interest in or doesn't wish to be associated with. Her nickname was Snow Maiden, a detached ethereal beauty "
"What else do they say? Speak up!"
"Stop rushing the girl Anthony." Laura said slapping her husband on his shoulder.
"She was a business student at the university, graduated at the top of her class and was recruited by various companies but she turned them down because they wanted to place her in official positions."
"Why did she do that?" Anthony asked
'Anyone who just graduated would be thrilled to be recruited into a high position.'
"According to her advisor, she said that, working in a position that was handed to you like that doesn't guarantee the same level of respect you would get if you worked your way up."
This surprised everyone except for Alexander.
"The school has even invited her to be a guest lecturer for the business program."
"Let me see her picture again." Anthony said to his granddaughter. He studied the photo of the young woman, she was beautiful even though she wasn't smiling in the photo and she carried an air of aloofness.
She would match his brat of a grandson well maybe even reel him in. Not only was she beautiful, she was also hard working and didn't like things handed to her. He couldn't help but accept her.
"Since you're interested in the young lady, you can continue I won't interfere with your business." Anthony's statement puzzled the family, wasn't he the one who wanted to marry off his grandson to the highest bidder.
Martha, the head maid came forward to notify the family that dinner was ready, the conversation about Evangeline continued.
-------------------------------------------------------------
"Alex, why don't you stay the night?" his mother suggested.
"I can't mom, I have work to finish and a meeting early tomorrow so I have to go, I'll call you often so don't worry."
She could only stand at the door watching her eldest child broad his vehicle and it driving away.
When she got back to the living room, her father-in-law and her daughter were discussing the woman her son was infatuated with. She listen in as her daughter narrated the stories she heard of her.
'Evangeline Beaumont, who are you really?'
"She sounds like a really smart girl and she's beautiful, no wonder my grandson likes her." Anthony laughed gleefully.
"Now he's your grandson, weren't you about to beat him for being an unfilial brat?" Laura asked her husband.
Helena covered her mouth to hide her smile when she heard her grandmother's words.
Jennifer watched her inlaws and her daughter talk about Evangeline, discomfort blossoming in her heart. She went upstairs, her husband following closely behind her. He could tell that something was wrong with his wife.
"Why the gloomy expression, dear?" he walked up to her, hugging her from behind while she looked out the window.
"I don't know, Alexander all of a sudden mentioning a girl that he fancies and Helena saying that she's cold to people, I'm worried about our son. What if she's just leading him on and using him?" the discomfort visible on her face
"My love." Julian said as he turned her to face him, "You know Alexander well, he wouldn't allow himself to be used by others and we aren't familiar with the young lady, so we can't judge her. What if being cold to others is a defence mechanism for her."
Jennifer looked at her husband, listening carefully to his words.
"And if I remember clearly, weren't you also quite cold to me?" he teased
She rolled her eyes, "Like father, like son." she smiled.
Julian kissed her on the forehead.
"Don't worry about Alexander my dear, he'll be fine."
Jennifer felt much better after hearing what her husband had to say, she rested her head against his chest as a gentle breeze passed through the window.
