Companions

Tired was an understatement.

She was on the verge of passing out from the lack of sleep but somehow she continued to power through it.

Back to back meetings, endless files and phone calls kept her moving.

Eva was sitting in her office when Megan brought her a fourth cup of coffee.

"Ms. Beaumont, you have to slow down on the coffee, this isn't healthy."

"I don't drink coffee that often Megan, so you don't need to worry about it." Eva said as she took the cup from her.

Megan went over the discussions with the two teams and stated that the proposals for two of the company's biggest clients are completed and the production for Celetron Tech's advertisement can start as soon Alex gives the green light for the updated proposal.

"What time is the meeting with Mr. Blackthorne?"

"It's at 2:30."

"Thank you Megan, you can go back to work."

After nodding, Megan left Eva's office.

Opening her desk drawer, Eva pulled out a pair of prescription reading glasses, before picking up the documents on her desk.

---------------------------------------------------------

"Megan, I'm heading out to meet Mr. Blackthorne for our lunch meeting."

"Okay Ms. Beaumont, take care."

Eva left the office to meet Alex at a popular restaurant.

A waitress guided her to the private room where

Alex was seated sipping on a glass of water.

When Eva arrived she noticed that his assistant wasn't there.

"Hello Mr. Blackthorne." she greeted with a smile.

Alex got up and walked over to the other side of the table pulling out a chair for her.

"It's good to see you too Ms. Beaumont, how are you?"

Eva walked over to take her seat before answering him, "I'm good sir."

Alex noticed the tired look in her eyes and the subtle shaking of the hand that held her handbag.

It was obvious to him that yesterday's incident bothered her greatly.

For the her sake he didn't point it out, but walked back to his seat.

Once seated, they both placed their orders and the waitress took the menus then left.

Eva broke the silence.

" I would like to apologize to you for seeing such an embarrassing moment, I'm grateful that you helped me out. I hope this doesn't affect your views of me working on your company's project." Eva looked directly at Alex as she spoke.

"I value your professionalism Ms. Beaumont and whatever I saw was outside of work so there is no need for you to worry."

Alex could see the tension leave Eva's body and her eyes lighting up for a spilt second. Her body language and eyes taught him alot about her and this was another learning experience.

" Thank you Mr. Blackthorne."

" Let's begin our meeting then. " he said with a small smile

Eva pulled out a file and handed it to Alex, as he read through it, Eva would add a few points.

Alex was pleased with the changes made to the proposal.

"I like the new proposal, we can start with shooting the ad, the launch of the new products will be next month and I want the ad to be ready by then."

"I'll inform our production team."

The pair ate in silence, every now and again Alex would glance at Eva. He had learned something new.

'She likes spicy food.'

Whenever he was around her, he would pay close attention to her subtle and not so subtle movements.

He also remembers the things she likes.

After clearing the plates, the waitress come back with a chocolate lava cake placing it in front of Eva.

"I didn't order this."

"I did, you like sweets so I took the initiative to order one for you."

Her eyes widen slightly and her hand reached up to scratch her ear slightly.

'She's shy.'

"Thank you."

Eva took a bite of her cake, a small smile gracing her face.

'Such a cute foodie.'

Alex and Eva excited the restaurant, catching the attention of some of the waitresses and some people Eva would have preferred not seeing.

"Are you heading back to work?" Alex asked Eva

"Yes, I have to inform the production team and finish some work."

"Let me drop you off then. Don't decline, I insist."

"Thank you-"

"Evangeline!"
