Positive.
Lucy sat on the bed, her fingers trembling as she stared at the pregnancy test. The two pink lines were clear as day.
She let out a sharp breath, but it did nothing to ease the pounding in her chest.
No. No, no, no. This couldn't be happening.
Dr. Evelyn watched her, a small smile breaking through her professional demeanor. "You're pregnant, Lucy."
Lucy swallowed hard. Her throat burned as if she had swallowed fire. She lifted her gaze, her vision blurry with unshed tears. "No. This… this can't be right."
Dr. Evelyn reached out and squeezed her hand gently. "I know this is a shock, but—"
Lucy ripped her hand away, her voice breaking. "A shock? This is a nightmare."
Evelyn hesitated before speaking. "Lucy… a child can be a blessing."
Lucy let out a choked laugh, tears slipping down her cheeks. "A blessing? I don't even know who the father is. I can't… I can't do this. My life is already a disaster. This just made it worse."
The sobs came hard and fast, her body shaking as she buried her face in her hands. Evelyn rubbed slow circles on her back, offering silent comfort.
Minutes passed before Lucy's voice returned, weak and broken. "I can't have this child."
Evelyn's hand stilled.
Lucy lifted her head, her red-rimmed eyes pleading. "I want an abortion."
Evelyn inhaled deeply, choosing her words carefully. "Lucy… that's not an easy decision. And given your medical history, it might not be an option."
Lucy frowned. "What do you mean?"
Evelyn's expression turned serious. "Your body has been through a lot. If you terminate this pregnancy, there's an extremely high chance that you'll never be able to conceive again."
Lucy's breath caught in her throat. "You're lying."
"I wish I was," Evelyn admitted. "But it's the truth."
A cold wave of fear crashed over her. She felt like she was drowning.
"I'll give you time to think about it," Evelyn said softly.
But Lucy didn't need time.
She was trapped.
And no matter what she chose… she would lose.
A Call for Help That Wasn't Granted
Lucy barely slept that night. Her mind spun in circles, unable to rest.
By morning, she made a decision—she needed time to think.
She reached for her phone and called the office.
After two rings, someone picked up.
Hannah.
Lucy's stomach twisted. The assistant manager hated her.
"What do you want?" Hannah's voice was sharp, impatient.
Lucy swallowed down her frustration. "I need to take a leave for the day."
A cold chuckle came through the speaker. "A leave? You?"
Lucy closed her eyes, forcing herself to stay calm. "Yes. It's important."
"Well, I don't care," Hannah said flatly. "You have work to do. You're coming in today."
Lucy gripped the phone tightly. "Hannah, please. I—"
"Oh, really? And what makes you think you can just disappear whenever you want? The company doesn't revolve around you, Sinclair."
Lucy clenched her jaw. **"**I wouldn't ask if it weren't serious."
"Then make it less serious." Hannah sneered. "You're coming in tomorrow, no excuses."
Lucy felt her blood turn cold. She didn't have the energy to argue. "Fine." She hung up, her hand trembling.
She had no choice.
The Hospital Visit & the Harsh Truth
She worked through the morning, barely making it through the hours. The moment her break started, she grabbed her bag and rushed out of the office.
St. Gabriel's Medical Center stood tall in the heart of the city, its glass doors gleaming under the afternoon sun. She stepped inside, her nerves on edge.
She hadn't expected to see Dr. Evelyn.
The woman was standing near the reception, flipping through patient files. The moment her eyes landed on Lucy, her brow lifted in surprise.
"Lucy?"
Lucy swallowed, suddenly feeling small. "I… I came for a consultation."
Evelyn set her files aside. "Come with me."
Minutes later, Lucy sat in the consultation room, her hands gripping the armrests of the chair.
Evelyn sighed before speaking. "Lucy, if you go through with this abortion, there's an 80% chance you won't be able to conceive in the future."
Lucy felt the words like a slap to the face.
Eighty percent?
Evelyn's gaze softened. "I know this isn't what you wanted, but maybe… this child is meant to be."
Lucy left the hospital in a daze.
Telling Cassie & James
That night, after hours of crying, Lucy finally dialed Cassie's number.
The call barely rang before Cassie picked up(video call). "Lucy! You've been MIA. What's going on?"
Lucy opened her mouth, but nothing came out.
Cassie's tone shifted. "Lucy?"
Silence.
Then—
"I'm pregnant."
The words came out so quietly, she almost thought Cassie hadn't heard.
But the sharp intake of breath on the other end confirmed otherwise.
"What?"
Lucy's fingers clutched the phone, her voice breaking. "I don't know what to do."
James's voice suddenly joined the call. "Lucy… listen to me. Don't do anything rash."
"I can't have a child," Lucy whispered.
"No," Cassie interrupted, her voice firm. "You can. And you will. You're not alone."
Tears streamed down Lucy's face.
"Oh Lucy I wish I was with you at this moment but We are doing greate here very soon you will comeback" said Cassie in tears
"Keep the Child Lucy" said James "It deserves a chance"
The Office Turns Against Her
Lucy continued working,
She started wearing oversized clothes to hide her growing belly. At first, no one noticed, but by the third month, it was impossible to ignore.
Whispers filled the office corridors.
"Did you see Lucy? She's getting fat."
"Fat? Are you blind? That's a pregnancy bump."
"Wait… she's unmarried, isn't she?"
It didn't take long before the rumors turned into full-blown insults.
Some of the women in the office, who had always envied Lucy's presence, seized the opportunity to attack.
"So much for her being classy. Turns out she's just another gold-digging whore."
Some of the men, who once tried flirting with her, began to distance themselves., fearing association with the "scandalous" woman.
Except for one person—her manager, Mr. Carter.
One afternoon, a group of women stormed into his office.
"Either she goes, or we go," one of them demanded.
Mr. Carter leaned back in his chair, unimpressed. "Alright. Start packing your things."
The women froze.
He tilted his head. "What? I thought you wanted to leave?"
They exchanged panicked looks before one of them stammered, "We… we didn't mean it like that—"
"Then get back to work," he said coolly.
Lucy overheard the conversation from outside.
For the first time in months, someone had defended her.
But she knew things were only going to get worse.
6 months later
