Indeed, I had not yet opened my mouth to speak when she stepped out of the car.

Her face showed concern as she said, "Summer, where have you been these past few days? Dashiell and I have been so worried about you. Especially Dashiell - he's been so worried about you lately that he can't eat. Look how thin he's gotten. It's heartbreaking to see."

It sounded like she was concerned about me, but she was actually subtly taunting me.

"He's your husband. Feeling sorry for him is your business. What does it have to do with me?"

I said nonchalantly, but Dashiell's face turned a shade paler.

His fingers trembled slightly, as if bearing endless heartache. "Summer, from beginning to end, you were the only one I ever wanted to marry."

Hearing these words, I felt utterly disgusted.

I looked at him with impatience in my eyes. "Dashiell, if I don't spell things out clearly, are you really going to treat me like a fool?"
