found a job

4. Found a job

"Okay Mary sorry but this is kinda weird. How do you know so much about me? It's not like I made anything and everything about my life known to the world, did I?" I ask her because I can't take this anymore. I mean who would if they were in my shoes.

"I know you because of your father. I mean that brags about you all the damn time. Immediately you see him on the screen just know he's going to talk about you his dearest first born child."

Okay I didn't know my father spoke about me. I always thought he didn't care about me because which father in this world let's his daughter get married to a man she doesn't love. Anyways I don't think him talking about me all the time had to do with anything to love me rather it was to show the world that we were a perfect little family.

I mean that man cares about his reputation more than anything in this world and running away from my wedding just made it go on a loose string that can break anytime.

Any slight mistake and he would lose his whole empire. I really didn't want that for him but I really didn't have a choice, did I?

I couldn't let my little sister's dreams and mine be destroyed because of him and his family.

I mean my little sister's dream is to become a doctor but she can't because dad and his family believe that girls are not supposed to go any further than highschool in terms of education. Crazy right? It is believed that we need to be house wives and we cannot be independent.

The little education that we get is just for opening our eyes and that we shouldn't be illiterate house wives.

That's why back at the wedding I told auntie Maggie that I wouldn't let them ruin my life just like the way they did to hers.

"How do you not know that your dad talks about you all the time?" Mary asks me snapping me out of my thoughts. "Do you not watch the news?"

I shake my head no and the talkative girl goes like "what! Your whole life is showcased on the news and you don't watch it. Okay even if you don't watch the news, you're still on social media don't you see your life being posted all over there?"

"No," I plainly answer

" What the heck girl? What about all those things on your Instagram account?"

"I don't run that account. Somebody does it for me. That's just how complicated rich people's lives are."

"Oh sorry about that. So what do you plan to do with your life now? I mean you practically gave up everything that you have after running away." She asks a worried look on her face

"I'll look for a job as I raise money to open that restaurant I've always dreamt of."

"And where will you find that job? Do you know how scarce jobs are in this town and country?"

"Don't worry I'll surely find a way."

"Oh Avril you are really naive things aren't always what they seem to be in this world."

"I know things are tough but I'm sure I'll figure something out."

"Honestly speaking I think you shouldn't have ran away you don't know the hardships of life. How are you going to manage this.

Oh and sorry for asking but why did you really run away I mean you a John seemed like you'd work?"

"I'm doing this for my little sister's and my happiness. And apparently my happiness didn't lie in getting married."

"Oh, I see anyways I shouldn't judge you and no one else should."

"Doesn't your boss need anymore workers?" I ask hoping she'd give me a positive response.

"Actually young master Derrick is in need of a chef his last one is retiring. But I don't think it's something you can do."

"Are you kidding me right now? That's like the best job for me. Why do you think I wanna open my own restaurant.

Please don't tell me that just coz I'm from a rich family I don't know how to cook. Girl you're wrong about that.

Cooking is my passion, my everything."

"What! You're joking right? How on earth do you expect me to believe that the daughter of richest man in town knows how to cook?"

"See that's the problem with everyone, you underestimate me. I learnt how to cook at a very young age and my mom was the one who taught me how to.

Please don't tell you forgot that she was a french and french people as you know can be really good chefs."

"Oh yeah I remember that she was and your dad always praised for her good cooking skills."

"See. So all I need is to talk to your young master Derrick. By the way I was meaning to ask how exactly is your boss this rich. I remember he told me that he's a doctor in training?"

"Well young master Derrick owns one the largest medicine companies in the country and he supplies the medicine to drug stores even big hospitals such as the university teaching hospital and others."

"Oh, quite impressive. Sorry to be nosy but why do you work for him?"

"I need the money to send my self to University and pay for my mother's medical bills. She's really ill at the moment. And since I don't have a father to take care of all these things, I need to do it myself."

"Where's your dad?" I ask not sure if I should have.

"He left for another woman when I was little."

"Oh, sorry to hear that. "

"Nah it's fine. Can we not really talk about this. I think you might have found a job and things will be easier for you. "

"Yah you're right I think I did find a job and it's all thanks to you. You're really a life savior girl."

"Oh please don't flatter me."

"Oh no really thanks girl."
