Gaufridi and Politics

Gaufridi passed again, the third time and Ed wasn't in the mood to wait back for whatever Abel nor the voice inside him was saying anymore.

Trying to leave him, he felt his arm being held back this time around by a very strong hand.

"Why don't you listen? You'll only be seeking your death if you go after him"

He turned and this time it was Abel's voice speaking. He seemed to have come back and he didn't struggle to stretch his legs anymore.

" Why should I listen to you? Little I know, demons don't even listen to each other" Ed said from his little knowledge he had learnt from Father Romillon's classes.

" Yes they don't listen to each other and the enmity they have for each other is also palpable" Abel mutters while standing.

Enmity? The word struck Ed's mind and he stood up as well, waiting for him to explain what he had meant by what he said.

" Look, in this place, it is a den for survival. The lucky people who get to survive are just that, lucky. No one even cares to look for you if you die. Some might not even recall you after a while. RE government won't, sometimes neither will your family!"

" I don't have any family that would look for me even if I go missing anyways" Ed blurted, his emotions being overcome by his reality.

"Well that makes it even better. You'd have to struggle to survive or you'd be taken out by someone after your position"

Ed didn't understand what he meant by his last sentence. Weren't demons said to be free beings capable of making whatever decisions and going wherever places they wanted? So why were they bothered by meagre things such as hierarchy when they have freedom.

"Gaufridi bound a demon in Catherine's body, that demon was a knight and the rightful owner of the position, Gaufridi currently possesses"

Ed's eyes glared in shock. "Isn't that corruption?"

"Are you dumb? They are demons, corruption is what they are made of"

Ed felt a lump forming in his throat. Perhaps he was really dumb. If not, why his life? Only dumb people are given dumb lives to live. Explains his useless existence. He thought.

"It occurs often in demonic politics. Stronger demons trap the weaker ones or sometimes it's the opposite. In Gaufridi's case, he trapped a stronger demon in order to assume his position. And worse was that he sent him to a monastery"

" What is wrong with him being sent to a monastery?" Ed's curiosity sparked.

Abel stared at him for a while before speaking up again.

" They are demons, Ed. Didn't you come from a monastery? You should know all these things"

" We were just told stories and didn't see these things. I don't even know what happened and why Father Gaufridi is still alive. Last I saw was when he was dragged away by the Monastery soldiers. He was supposed to be burnt alive because being dragged out that day and on the accusations he was levelled means he is a wizard" Ed rattled.

Abel watched him talk and when he was done, began walking away, motioning for him to follow.

Ed didn't know whether or not he was to as Gaufridi was still in sight and after giving it a little thought, accepted Abel's invite and followed him.

He was the only person that had met him and was currently educating him. Even if he were to turn him to his slave because he was powerful, he wouldn't mind as long as he would protect him and feed him on days when he is hungry.

The hallway which he took him through was filled with paintings of tarot cards and some paper drawings Ed couldn't explain even if he were asked.

He found some paper boats flying in the air as well but didn't know how it was possible.

Then when they seemed to reach the middle of the hallway, Abel stopped and this caused Ed who had been follow him closely come to a sudden halt as well, trying to restrain himself from hitting him.

After successfully doing so, he raised his head and his eyes locked with that of Abel's.

What was happening? He asked himself as he noticed him staring so conspicuously into his eyes. Was his demon acting out again or was he genuinely just staring into his eyes like that?

"Your mother abandoned you and your drunkard father for a richer man"

He said after a few minutes.

Ed became apprehensive.

"How did you know that?" He blurts angrily, annoyed he was using his powers on him.

"Did you just read my heart?" He questioned again recalling that what he had just said were his thoughts.

His mother had abandoned him and his drunkard father for a richer man so now he needed to find a way to fend for himself.

"Your mind? No. I don't have such powers. Demons powers haven't evolved to that yet"

" So what did you just do?"

" Project myself into your past"

" Huh?"

" You see those flying paper boats over there?"

Ed turned to look at the papers he had seen one more time.

" They are new intakes practicing astral projection"

" Astral...?"

Abel picked one of the paper boats off the air and crushed it with his fingers.

Ed watched as it turned into a dark smoke.

"How dare you Abel!! Your demon needs to keep you in check!"

He heard a faint female voice speak before the smoke travelled out through the hall.

"There are different forms of astral projections Ed Warren, but the most common here is the paper projections. These papers can be sent anywhere with the sender watching what is happening while being inside it with their consciousness"

"But not all of them are for the same reason and some are illusions of abandoned demons in disguise looking for whom to possess"

Ed's attention wasn't on the bench words he said as he saw a paper different from the shape the others carried. And instead of being a boat, the one he saw was in the shape of kite and glistened, flying higher than the others.

Abel had begun to continue walking away when he realized that Ed wasn't following him and when he turned behind him to check, he saw that Ed was about picking a projection from the air.

"Ed!!!!" He screamed at him but the projection had already been crushed and before he knew it, the black smoke came forth and immediately shot itself right into Ed's system.
