Chapter 5

"Shut your mouth! You need to understand your place! I only love Melody, no one else!"

"Don't ever bring this up again. I'm afraid it'll upset Melody if she finds out!"

Vivienne grumbled softly, clearly dissatisfied.

Then Alec, with an extremely aggressive posture, pinned Vivienne beneath him.

He began his frenzied assault.

What followed were Vivienne's deliberately muffled cries and Alec's strained grunts as he tried to control himself.

I smiled bitterly, realizing my seven years had been wasted after all.

In the past, I would have thrown a fit, screaming and falling apart.

But now, surprisingly, I felt no pain at all.

I tiptoed out, making my way to the lawn outside the hotel, letting the night's tranquility wash over me.

Half an hour later, Alec came rushing over.

"Melody, where have you been? I've been looking all over. I just got you some water from the front desk."

I stared blankly at his poor acting, not calling out his lie on the spot.

Perhaps thinking of what had just happened, Alec nervously rubbed his nose.

"Melody, on your way here just now... you didn't see anything, did you?"

He looked at me anxiously, as if seeking confirmation of something.I stared directly into his eyes.

After a long while, I finally spoke calmly.

"Nothing. What do you think I would have seen?"

He breathed a sigh of relief, took off his suit jacket, and draped it over me.

"Alec, I just heard a story from someone. About a man who loved a woman deeply, but still ended up cheating on her in the end..."

"Do you think all men will eventually be unfaithful?"

Alec's eyes flickered slightly.

"Of course not."

"Melody, you can put your mind at ease. Even if every other man in the world cheated, I never would."

Listening to his hypocritical vows, I found it oddly amusing.

I struggled to suppress my emotions.

"I want to go home."

Alec wrapped an arm around my waist.

"Alright, I'll go back with you. The remaining tasks can be handled by my assistant. My most important job is to keep my darling company."

"Melody, your birthday is coming up in a few days, right? I'll take you to an island resort to relax and unwind."

That same evening, Alec announced in the company group chat that all employees would get time off.

The reason given was to celebrate the birthday of his Mrs. Carlisle.

Many employees sent me private messages.

"Thank you, Melody! If it weren't for you, how could we possibly have paid vacation days!"

"Melody, you're my goddess! You and Mr. Carlisle must have a great time!"

Among them, there was a message that stood out, sent by Vivienne.

"Melody, tell me, would Mr. Carlisle rather spend a boring birthday with you or play an exciting role-play game with me?"

Sure enough, by evening, Alec had a guilty look on his face.

"Melody, I'm sorry, but I might have to cancel on your birthday. I have to go on a business trip for the next couple of days. Can I make it up to you in a few days?"

I nodded numbly, actually I should have expected this outcome.

Alec leaned in close, whispering in my ear.

"Melody, what do you want for a gift?"

"Whatever you want, I'll get it for you."
