A Routine Day… Until It Wasn't
Su Yan was in a great mood.
Dr. Carter had finally stopped sulking about his princess tiara incident, and the hospital had almost returned to normal.
So, naturally, Su Yan was wandering around the hospital, sipping a fruit smoothie and looking for entertainment.
She passed by Pediatrics, humming, when she suddenly paused.
Because something was wrong.
The Discovery
A little girl, about four years old, sat quietly in a waiting chair.
She wasn't crying.
She wasn't screaming.
She wasn't even fidgeting.
She was too still.
Su Yan frowned. "That's not right."
She approached, crouching in front of the child.
"Hey, sweetheart. You okay?"
The girl blinked slowly but didn't answer.
Su Yan's gaze narrowed.
Her lips were dry.
Her breathing was shallow.
Her little fingers had a bluish tint.
Shock.
Something was very, very wrong.
Su Yan stood up immediately. "Who's with this child?"
A flustered mother turned, startled. "Oh—me! We've been waiting to see a doctor. She's just a little tired, I think—"
Su Yan didn't wait.
She turned to a passing nurse. "Get a crash cart. Now."
The nurse paled. "Wait, what—"
Su Yan's voice hardened. "NOW."
The Pediatric ER Erupts Into Chaos
Thirty seconds later, the ER was in full motion.
Doctors rushed in.Nurses prepped emergency equipment. The little girl was immediately placed on a stretcher.
Dr. Carter—still wearing his princess tiara out of pure spite— ran in, breathless. "What's going on?!"
Su Yan, now sitting comfortably on a nearby bed, sipped her smoothie.
"Kid's crashing. Probably a ruptured appendix."
Carter froze. "…Excuse me?"
Su Yan stretched. "Fever. Lethargy. Poor perfusion. Bet she's had mild stomach pain for a few days, and now she's in septic shock."
Carter paled. "…She's been waiting here for hours."
Su Yan shrugged. "Yeah. You're welcome."
Carter didn't even have time to process the fact that she just saved a child's life like it was an afterthought.
Because the little girl's vitals suddenly plummeted.
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
Heart rate dropping. Blood pressure crashing.
Carter's training kicked in. "Get her to the OR! Now!"
Su Yan's Relaxing Commentary
The pediatric surgery team scrambled as the child was rushed to the operating theatre.
And where was Su Yan?
Still lounging in the ER, sipping her smoothie.
Lin Kai walked in, raising an eyebrow. "You look entertained."
Su Yan grinned. "Oh, I am. They'll be fine. I just saved a kid, and now I get to enjoy watching them panic."
Lin Kai chuckled. "They'll realize soon, won't they?"
Su Yan nodded. "Yup. But let's see how long it takes."
Inside the OR: The Realization
Dr. Evans (General Surgeon) was assisting Dr. Carter as they opened the child's abdomen.
And the second they got inside—
They all froze.
Because the appendix?
Completely ruptured. Septic fluid everywhere.
Exactly what Su Yan said.
Carter stared.
Evans muttered, "…How?"
Jason, the intern who had been traumatized by Su Yan before, whispered, "She did it again."
Back in the ER: Su Yan Enjoys the Show
Ten minutes later.
Carter stormed back into the ER, still wearing his surgical cap.
Su Yan didn't even look up. "Good work, princess."
Carter pointed a trembling finger at her. "How did you know?"
Su Yan smirked. "I'm a genius."
Carter opened his mouth. Closed it. Gave up.
Evans walked in, rubbing his temples. "Can I just ask… why do you never do the surgery yourself?"
Su Yan yawned. "Too much work."
Lin Kai smirked. "And she enjoys watching you all struggle."
Carter groaned. "She's a menace."
Evans muttered, "And somehow, she's our menace."
Jason, Sarah, and David (the intern trio) exchanged looks.
Sarah sighed. "…I feel like she's never going to stop, is she?"
David grinned. "I hope not."
Jason whispered, "I need to update my will."
And with that—Su Yan finished her smoothie, stretched, and wandered off, looking for her next source of entertainment.
Because in this hospital?
There was always someone new to mess with.
