"Okay, wait a moment."
Although these men didn't look like good people, Jaxon couldn't judge them just by their appearance. He still had to make a living.
However, as soon as these men stood in front of Jaxon's stall, the students who were initially there subconsciously stepped aside, keeping their distance.
Seeing this, the young men didn't feel embarrassed at all. Instead, they seemed to be enjoying the situation, wearing smug expressions.
"Boss, why is it taking so long? What's with all the delays?" After a while, the young men started getting impatient.
"I also want to finish it quickly, but I can't give you the food before it's properly cooked," Jaxon replied.
"You talk too much," said the leader of the group. Then, whether intentionally or not, he rolled up his sleeve, revealing a tattoo on his arm. "I heard your barbecue is really good. If we're not satisfied today, we'll make sure your business can't continue."
Jaxon, who already didn't have a good impression of these men, furrowed his brow upon hearing this. "Everyone has different tastes. What one person likes, another might not. I can't guarantee that everyone will enjoy my barbecue."
At first, Jaxon just disliked their manner, but now, he was almost certain that these guys were here to cause trouble. If not, the leader wouldn't have said that. It was obvious they weren't people with much tact. Their intentions were easy to see—they were just low-level troublemakers.
"Stop talking nonsense," the leader snapped. "Hurry up and make it! Can't you see we're waiting here? I don't care how you do it, but you better make sure we're satisfied!"
"Being satisfied is all on us, right? Just wait and see. Even if you cook it perfectly, we can just say we're not happy. Let's see what you do then!"
"Master, do you think something's going to happen?" Liu Yidao, noticing these guys' aggressive attitude, whispered to Jaxon.
"It's nothing," Jaxon answered. "Just a bunch of thugs. Nothing to worry about."
Seeing Jaxon remain calm, Liu Yidao didn't say anything more. After working at Kaillemen for a while, he'd seen his fair share of things and wasn't going to be intimidated by a few troublemakers.
Soon, Jaxon finished cooking the food. The young men, thinking it was for them, reached out to grab it. However, Jaxon didn't give them the food, instead handing it to the other customers.
"What's this supposed to mean?! Are you looking down on us?" the leader of the group shouted.
"It's first come, first served. These people were here before you," Jaxon replied calmly. "If you want food, please wait in line."
The leader instinctively glanced at the other customers in line, and indeed, everyone was patiently waiting.
"I'm eating your food to give you face, and you're making us line up?" the leader retorted.
"Everyone waits in line," Jaxon replied indifferently.
"Yeah, line up!"
"We've been waiting a long time. If you want food, go to the back."
"No cutting in line!"
The leader had intended to get angry and make a scene, but before he could speak, the people waiting in line started speaking up.
Most of the people waiting were students, and students tend to be passionate. They didn't like seeing their place in line taken by someone else after waiting so long.
If it were just one or two students, the young men might not have cared and could have even roughed up the students. But there were a lot of students around, and they couldn't just start a fight. The area was near Goldenleaf University, so there were many students around, and they often stuck together. Even if these young men came to cause trouble, they weren't going to risk picking a fight with so many students.
Reluctantly, the young men finally squeezed to the back of the line, waiting about half an hour until it was their turn.
"Hurry up and make it," they said, unable to take their anger out on the students, so they directed it at Jaxon, speaking in a hostile tone.
Jaxon ignored them, continuing to cook. In the young men's eyes, this was a sign that Jaxon was intimidated. This made them feel better, as they'd finally gotten back some dignity after the students had made them wait.
"Your food is ready," Jaxon said, handing them their skewers.
"So fast? It's not undercooked, is it? If we get sick, you're done for!" The young men, who had been pushing Jaxon earlier, now sounded suspicious that everything was prepared so quickly.
"If you're worried, don't eat," Jaxon replied. "I won't charge you."
"Why wouldn't we eat?" the leader of the group snatched the food from Jaxon's hand. "But if we get sick, don't think you can just get away with it."
After saying that, the leader handed the food to his companions, and they started eating right in front of Jaxon's stall.
As soon as they took a bite, the young men, who had intended to start trouble, were all surprised. At almost the same time, their eyes lit up, and their throats moved a few times before they took another bite, stuffing their mouths. They kept eating until their mouths were full before they began chewing and swallowing.
"Bro, what should we do? This stuff is really good," one of the young men whispered to the leader, though his words were muffled since his mouth was full.
"Mind your place! Can you finish eating before talking? Aren't you embarrassed?" the leader scolded.
The young man who had spoken shrank back, chewing faster. In his heart, he couldn't help but disdain the leader: "You're criticizing me, but you're eating just as fast as I am. You finished your chicken skewer in seconds. You're like a starving ghost. You really don't care about your image, do you?"
The leader, meanwhile, was torn. On one hand, he'd never tasted such good barbecue before, and his hunger made him devour it without stopping. On the other hand, he had come to stir trouble and shouldn't be eating so recklessly. He should have used the opportunity to cause a scene.
After swallowing the food, the leader looked at Jaxon and opened his mouth.
"Give us another round of the same," he said.
