Chapter 13

In the days when I couldn't reach Jaxon, I endured Clayton's harassment.

Today it was flowers, tomorrow it was gourmet food. He always tried to find any excuse to knock on my door.

"Vivienne, I bought your favorite bellflowers first thing this morning. They're the freshest ones, and I've left them at your doorstep."

"Vivienne, a new Cantonese dim sum place opened near my office. I know you don't want to go out to eat with me, so I got some takeout for you. It's outside your door. Remember to eat it while it's hot."

"Vivienne, the weather's getting colder. I saw this wool scarf while passing through the mall and thought it would suit you perfectly."

For several days in a row, Clayton left things at my doorstep. It meant I had to carry extra items down every time I took out the trash. The old lady who sunbathed downstairs was having the time of her life these past few days, thanks to all the gifts and food I was giving her.

But on this day, Clayton didn't bring anything.
