Chapter 3

"Hello, old man, it's Becca."

The voice on the other end of the line chuckled upon hearing me.

"Becca? Weren't you supposed to be home? How do you have time to call me?"

"Old man, I have a situation I need to report to you."

I briefly recounted the events of the class reunion and how Cecilia and my husband were trying to force me to divorce.

As soon as I finished, I heard the sound of a glass shattering on the other end of the line.

"Who has the audacity to force you into a divorce?"

Before I could respond, Cecilia snatched the phone from me.

"Listen up, whoever you are on the other end. I don't care what your relationship with Becca is, but her husband is mine now, and there's nothing anyone can do about it."

"I advise you not to meddle in affairs that don't concern you, or you might end up in trouble too!"

The old man was probably stunned that someone daCadillacpeak to him like that. He paused for a few seconds before speaking.

"So you're the one forcing Becca to divorce?"

Ozzy, still unaware of the identity of the person on the other end of the line, maintained his cocky attitude.

"That's right, it's me."

"In all of New York City, there's nothing that I, Cecilia, have set my eyes on that I haven't gotten."A woman is nothing more than a man. If I want him, I'll have him. Who's going to stop me?"

With that, she threw her phone on the ground and stomped on it a few times.

Holy crap, I've seen my fair share of brave souls, but I've never seen anyone as reckless as her.

"Alright, now that you've made your call, it's time to fulfill your promise."

Cort had one arm around Cecilia, while his other hand held out a divorce agreement to me.

"I've prepared a divorce contract for you. Just sign it."

Looking at the stack of documents on the table, it further confirmed my earlier suspicions.

Cort had been cheating on me for a while.

For someone like him, I naturally wouldn't show any mercy.

Without hesitation, I signed my name and handed it back to him.

Seeing my decisiveness, a flicker of surprise crossed Cort's eyes.

"Becca, what are you doing?"

I looked up at him, my voice devoid of any emotion.

"What? Wasn't this your plan all along? To divorce me?"

"Now I'm giving you what you want. I've signed it, put my fingerprint on it. And you're the one complaining?"

"I suggest you sign it quickly too, before your college sweetheart changes her mind about you."

Cort's face turned green from my verbal jab."Fine! I'll sign it. You talk like anyone would actually want you!"

As soon as the words left her mouth, Cort immediately signed the divorce papers.

With that, my five-year marriage finally came to an end.

I don't know why, but when I saw him sign his name at that moment, I didn't feel an ounce of regret.

Instead, I felt a great weight lift off my shoulders.

"I've signed it, so you've got what you wanted. Can I leave now?"

"Wait!"

Just as I was about to stand up and say goodbye, Cecilia stopped me with a mischievous grin on her face.

"You've settled things with your husband, now it's time to settle things between us."
