Lana's first day as Ethan's assistant was off to a rocky start. She had managed to spill coffee all over her new white blouse, knock over a plant in the reception area, and get lost in the maze-like corridors of Blackstone industries.
But things were about to get even worse.
As she was trying to compose herself and find her way to Ethan's office, his voice came over the intercom, sounding like thunder on a summer day.
"Lana, I need a coffee", he growled. "Black,no sugar. And make sure it's hot ".
Lana rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like I'm his personal coffee servant."
She stomped into the kitchen and started fiddling with the coffee machine. After a few minutes of wrestling with the contraption, she finally managed to get it spit out a lukewarm cup of coffee.
But as she was carrying the coffee to Ethan's office, disaster struck. She tripped on the carpet and the coffee went flying, splashing all over Ethan's pristine white shirt and tailored suit.
Ethan's face turned beet red with rage as he looked down to the coffee stains. "What is wrong with you!", he thundered. "Can't you even make a simple coffee?"
Lana stood her ground, her eyes flashing with defiance. "Hey watch it,Mr Blackwood", she said. "I'm doing my best here. And besides, it's just a cup of coffee. It's not the end of the world."
Ethan's eyes narrowed, clearly taken aback by Lana's sass. "I expect more from my employees",he said, his voice dripping with disdain.
Lana shrugged, unfazed. "Well, maybe you should hire someone else, then. Because I'm not exactly quaking in my boots over here ".
Ethan's face turned even redder, and for a moment, Lana thought she saw a glimmer of amusement in his eyes. But then his expression hardened, and he turned back into the cold, calculating man she had met in the interview.
"I'll let this slide this time",he said. "But next time, I expect perfection ".
Lana raised an eyebrow, her expression skeptical. "Perfection, huh? Well, I'll do my best. But no promises."
Ethan's eyes flashed with anger, but Lana just smiled sweetly and walked out of his office, leaving him to stew in his own juices.
