Noah really needed Constantine's help because Constantine was an adult exorcist with a legal certificate.
And Noah? He was just a young magician about to enter his second year. Even if he could obtain a legal exorcist certificate, it would be quite embarrassing.
Most exorcists couldn't cast spells for various reasons, making them mere duds in the eyes of magicians.
Of course, some exorcists could cast spells properly, but they were rare painfully so.
Anyone with a working brain wouldn't pursue this "inferior" profession, at least not from a magician's perspective. It was seen as disgraceful.
Besides, the Ministry of Magic didn't abandon these exorcists. Despite their shortcomings, they still belonged to the magical world.
When an exorcist and a fully trained magician accepted the same assignment, the Ministry would usually prioritize the exorcist.
This policy was meant to protect their profession. Even if magicians had a near-perfect success rate while exorcists had a high failure rate, the Ministry still favored the exorcists.
It might seem ridiculous, but the rule was widely accepted.
After all, why would a talented magician waste time stealing an exorcist's job? It was beneath them.
Though exorcists were part of the magical world, they mostly lived among Muggles, dealing with demons, angels, and all sorts of supernatural beings.
This also meant that their souls were bound to either Heaven or Hell after death, no matter their personal beliefs.
But having a magician as a friend could change everything.
Angels and demons had limited influence on Earth they could only lure people in rather than forcibly drag them away. And a magician? A magician could break their influence entirely.
Not just that Heaven and Hell wouldn't dare retaliate!
Even if they tried to bypass Asgard and Kamar-Taj, the risk of provoking magicians was too great. If these magic-wielders got angry, they might just decide to purge the Earth.
That would mean no more souls for Heaven or Hell. No messengers. No influence.
If magicians got involved, contact between the celestial and infernal realms and Earth might be severed for tens of thousands of years.
A terrifying thought, but well within a magician's capabilities.
This was why magicians were considered mad. They truly believed they could become gods.
Noah had learned all this from the system library. The recent upgrade had granted him knowledge far beyond his school curriculum.
It was also why he dared to fight the hybrid demon though, to be fair, that thing had been weak.
With Constantine's help, Noah could focus on his studies without worry.
If Constantine encountered something beyond his abilities, he could seek Noah's aid. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement.
What exorcist could refuse a magician's help?
Well, except for those extremists who despised magic-users.
Noah explained all this to Ms. Haifen.
She was displeased.
She reminded him that she had more than enough money to support his studies.
But Noah shot back, "Do I have to live off you forever? Shouldn't you be taking care of others too?"
That silenced her.
She had a point there were still children at the orphanage. Even if most had likely been adopted by now, there was no guarantee another stubborn child like Noah wouldn't refuse to leave.
After a full night's rest, Noah trained in the system library.
Whether due to a growth spurt or something else, his strength was skyrocketing along with his physical development.
Not that he minded. The stronger, the better. Noah was eager to take on the world!
A Morning Visitor
Noah was just getting up when a knock sounded at the door.
He opened it to find Ms. Haifen and the others waiting.
Sighing, he let them in.
They had come at noon.
It seemed he was already getting lazy without school keeping him in check.
As soon as he stepped inside, Father Hennessy rushed toward Noah, bowing repeatedly.
"Thank you, Mr. Magician! Thank you so much for saving me! Without you, I'd be in Hell right now!"
The sight of the large priest attempting to prostrate himself was both awkward and amusing.
Of course, his gratitude was genuine. If Noah hadn't intervened last night, he would have been doomed.
The demon's curse had left him unable to taste any liquid, even while suffering from extreme thirst and alcohol withdrawal. If left unchecked, he would have died from alcohol poisoning.
And since he technically would have "killed himself," he wouldn't have been allowed into Heaven.
"There's no need for thanks," Noah replied. "You were lucky. Now, what brings you here so early?"
"Well, Mr. Magician, just before last night's incident, I was at"
"The morgue," Noah interrupted. "Next door to the scene of the attack. I already know what you were doing there. Just get to the point."
"O okay."
Father Hennessy wiped imaginary sweat from his forehead.
This magician was unnervingly perceptive.
He had gone to inspect Isabel's body, and Noah had figured it out before he could say a word.
But, given Noah's abilities, that made sense.
"I found an icon on the girl's wrist," the priest continued. "Something like this."
He grabbed a pen and paper, sketching a symbol a cross within a circle.
Noah recognized it immediately.
Mammon's mark.
And the reason Mammon had chosen this girl?
She was a twin.
Everyone had spiritual power (or magic). Some had more, some had less, but it existed in everyone.
Noah had only recently learned this while reading in the system library. He had originally believed only magicians possessed magic.
Twins, however, were different.
If one died, the other could inherit their spiritual power.
Individually, Angela and Isabel weren't strong. But together?
Their combined spiritual power rivaled that of a magician.
With such a powerful vessel, Mammon could use a special method to manifest in the human world.
In other words, he was arrogant and reckless.
He had thought his plan was hidden, but in reality, the Ministry of Magic had been watching him all along.
"Alright," Noah said, nodding. "I understand now. John, do you remember what we talked about last night?"
"Of course," Constantine replied. "I remember everything."
"Good. Then let's go find your contact."
"Alright. We'll leave immediately."
