THE WEIGHT OF BLOOD.

Chapter: 20

******

Liam's POV :

The scent of blood still clung to the air, thick and suffocating. My muscles ached, my hands raw from the earlier fight at the Blood Den Arena, But nothing compared to the weight pressing against my chest, crushing the breath from my lungs.

A word still ringing in my ears, a slow, agonizing echo that refused to fade. "You were never meant to be free, Liam." It was my voice, those taunting voices.

The meaning behind them wasn't lost on me. I had never been free, not since the moment I joined the illegal supernatural underground, and since the time that I was marked—claimed like some possession made it all worse. And now, after everything, I was beginning to understand just how much I had lost. My friends. My purpose.
