Chapter 8: Chaos in Lobby and Unexpected Showdown

Back to the present.

"THIS IS THE LAST WARNING—STOP! DON'T TRY TO MOVE AND KEEP YOUR WEAPONS DOWN!"

Hearing the angry voice again, everyone immediately became still and ceased their actions.

Seeing the armed bodyguards, the security guards immediately became frightened; they quickly dropped their batons and hidden guns and squatted down.

The situation changed so fast that the pot-bellied man didn't have time to respond.

When he finally reacted and saw the muzzles aiming at him, he became so frightened that he literally peed his pants.

Brown-yellow liquid appeared on his crotch and slid down his legs.

Suddenly, a disgusting stench filled the air.

On the other side, Rex raised his eyebrows at the sudden appearance of the bodyguards.

As he hadn't thought that this matter would escalate to this extent—but he didn't feel any remorse or anything , as he was mentally prepared for any situation.

Suddenly, a strange odor reached his nose.

Rex frowned and looked around to find the source.

Seeing the crotch of the pot-bellied man, He quickly released his grip and moved away in disgust.

Seeing him so frightened that he had peed, he was speechless. It was his first time witnessing such a scene in real life; he had only read in novels and mangas.

As the situation came under control, William ordered his men to subdue the security guards and hurried toward Rex.

He also noticed the urine but didn't care, as he had seen worse.

Rex had already noticed William—it was hard not to notice such a giant.

William was a tall white man, about 35 years old, with muscles bulging as if to break out of his suit's constraints.

He had a neat crew cut, tanned skin from excessive sun exposure, and brown hair with penetrating black eyes.

He looked majestic and imposing—a man of authority and power.

William also curiously looked at Rex and was amazed by his handsomeness.

Seeing that, despite being surrounded by so many muzzles, Rex remained unfazed with a slight smile at the corner of his mouth.

William was impressed as even if he was in such a situation he wouldn't be able to remain so calm.

He thought to himself, "Sure enough, the person chosen by headquarters isn't ordinary—even if he is a bit young."

But was this really the truth? Rex was also initially shocked seeing so many guns aimed at him, as he was just a normal person who hadn't even seen a real gun up close.

His back was filled with cold sweat and his legs felt a bit shaky, but having died once, his mental strength was much stronger than that of ordinary people.

He quickly composed himself and kept a straight face.

Only when he carefully saw the logo of Arcanum Security Company did he relax and wear a pretentious smirk.

He had to maintain a good image in front of his future employees.

William came to Rex and immediately saluted, "Hello, Boss, my name is William Stanley. I am the current branch manager of Arcanum Security Company," he said solemnly.

Rex waved his hand and immediately said, "No need for fancy titles and salutes. We will be colleagues from now on; you don't have to be so serious, and I will be in your care in the future."

Hearing this, William relaxed and immediately formed a good impression of him, thinking that at least Rex was someone easy to talk to.

He was afraid that Rex might be a brainless, arrogant young master who had come to experience life.

Seeing Rex and William talking happily, everyone in the lobby was shocked by the sudden turn of events—who would have thought that the weak and frail handsome young man would end up as the final winner and have so many bodyguards around him.

The pot-bellied man, meanwhile, was petrified, as if struck by lightning. And became so frightened that, with a 'thud,' he fell into a puddle of his own urine.

He knew that he was completely finished—this poor young man had turned out to be rich. And with so many bodyguards, he would definitely not be an ordinary rich man.

He was not someone he could afford to offend; even his uncle had to bow down to him with a smile.

He had already imagined different ways he would die—getting tortured, drowning in a river, or perhaps dying in a car accident.

Even if he escaped by some miracle, he'd still end up in a hospital bed.

He thought about so many things, yet still didn't even consider apologizing, as it wasn't a big deal to begin with. If he could apologize, maybe this matter could end here. Perhaps it was his own mindset—if he were in that situation, he would definitely not spare him.

And he still hadn't realized that who could a poor man afford to live in such a luxury hotel? Just because someone is dressed simply doesn't mean they are poor, and likewise, dressing extravagantly doesn't necessarily make him rich.

Hearing the sudden sound of something falling, both turned their attention toward the pot-bellied man again.

William immediately spoke, "Sir, what do you want to do? Should I...?" He stopped talking and made a throat-cutting gesture.

Seeing this, the pot-bellied man became so frightened that he started crying and immediately began begging for mercy.

Hearing him talk about killing, Rex was speechless. It was just a small conflict—how could it lead to death?

So, he vigorously waved his hands and said, "What are you talking about? It's just a small matter. How could you even think like that? We live in a peaceful, law-abiding society; don't be so rigid in the future."

Hearing this, William bowed his head and apologized, "Yes, I understand. It was my fault for not thinking this through. Thank you for your guidance."

The pot-bellied man also nodded, as if he had been given a life-saving straw. He was almost moved to tears, looking at Rex with eyes full of gratitude.

Seeing him like this, Rex immediately changed his tone and said, "But it's no problem to teach him a little lesson on how to behave in the future, so that he remembers this valuable lesson."

William nodded seriously and said, "No problem, sir. I promise he will remember this lesson for his whole life."

The pot-bellied man became deflated but said nothing more; he was already thankful to have his life spared.

William immediately ordered his men to take care of him and instructed the other bodyguards to slowly withdraw.

Everyone in the lobby collectively breathed a sigh of relief and quickly dispersed; they didn't want to stay another extra minute.

Yet, if you looked closely, you could see that many people wore excited expressions, as if they had been infected with adrenaline.

They felt as though they had survived a catastrophe, and today's turn of events was more thrilling than any Hollywood movie—They could brag about it in front of their friends and families for the rest of their lives

.

Seeing that the situation was resolved, Rex walked toward the private area in the lobby with William.

As he passed by the reception, he inadvertently glanced at the girl from before. Noticing him looking her way, she trembled slightly with fear, not daring to lift her head.

He cast a quick glance and couldn't help but shake his head. It seemed he would have to keep a low profile in the future; otherwise, he wouldn't be able to live a normal, leisurely life.

After reaching the private area, he sat down with William and started discussing the main event.

William explained the structure and workings of their security company's branch in detail. He didn't reveal much about headquarters, as he assumed Rex was from there.

Rex could vaguely guess this, so he didn't ask any specifics.

He didn't take this seriously as he knew he would eventually learn everything in due course. So, what was the hurry?

After listening to William, Rex had a general understanding of the security company.

Its main business was providing security and escort services to the wealthy and powerful—only the ultra-rich could afford their services. They occasionally provided services to celebrities too, as they were in LA, the heart of Hollywood.

Aside from physical security like bodyguards, event security, security system installation and monitoring, security consulting, and guarding, they also had dedicated cybersecurity teams, though that wasn't their primary focus.

Overall, it was a comprehensive security company with tentacles spread across major cities and countries worldwide.

He was pleasantly surprised by all this information; he knew that this security company wasn't a small fry, but he hadn't expected it to be this large.

And he now understood why the system didn't give him control directly.

No matter how inflated he was, he knew he didn't yet have the ability to control such a massive company—not at least for now.

After explaining everything, William asked, "Sir, what are your orders and when do you plan to visit the office?"

Rex waved his hands hurriedly, "I don't have anything special to say—just keep doing what you've always done. I won't interfere much."

"You'll still be in charge. I'll contact you if something comes up, and don't contact me unless it's something major."

"But…" Just when William was about to speak, Rex stopped him and said, "No but, this is my order."

William didn't know what to say; he had to obey his orders, but he wasn't sure how to report this to headquarters.

Seeing Rex's adamant attitude, he had no choice but to accept it.
