Chapter 31: Deep in the Dark

Rome – Secret Tunnels – Midnight

In the depths, where darkness reigns and breathing is the only sound heard, Marco, Franco, and Salvo were walking with quick steps. Each of them held a small device in his hand, guiding them through the narrow passages that led to their unknown destination. Yet deep down, there was a strange feeling that they were far from safe.

"Where exactly are we?" Franco asked in a low voice, trying not to attract attention.

"I think we're nearing the warehouse." Marco answered, turning to check on the group. "Time is not on our side. If we don't find an exit soon, we'll be easy prey."

Salvo laughed lightly, even though his nerves were tense. "This time we can't run away quickly. We'll have to fight or surrender. There's no other choice."

But Marco was on high alert. "We have no choice but to continue. The goal is to escape from here with what remains of our lives."

Back to the square

At that moment, the ground shook suddenly. The sound of police cars was approaching quickly, and it seemed that the government had begun to surround the area. Everyone knew that a fight would be inevitable if they discovered their hideout.

"There is no time to hesitate." Marco said, pointing towards another narrow passage. "We need to find an exit as soon as possible."

But before they could take another step, they heard the sound of footsteps behind them, heavy footsteps, and it seemed that someone was following them into the tunnels.

"They've discovered us!" Franco shouted.

Suddenly, another figure appeared in front of them. It was a huge figure, his athletic body reflecting his strength. It was Luca Ferri, the famous arms dealer, smiling as if he had a great time following them.

"Didn't I tell you that I was here to help you?" Luca said, waving a small pistol at them.

"You're here?!" Salvo asked in surprise. "Didn't you run away from here?"

But Luca laughed, saying: "Escape is not in my dictionary. What I wanted was to keep a close eye on you. It seems that you need a little help."

A new surprise

While they were exchanging charged words, they suddenly heard a voice coming from the corridors. Footsteps were coming quickly, and when they looked back, they discovered that the police forces had started approaching them from the other direction.

"Think fast!" Marco said, breathing deeply. "We can't stay here, we have to move now."

But at that moment, something strange happened. The lights in the tunnels started to flash, then suddenly went out, completely engulfing the place in darkness.

"What's happening?" Franco whispered.

"The power was cut. Who did it?" Salvo said, trying to control his anger.

The answer came at a sudden moment, as they felt another person enter the corridor, but this time it was someone with a larger figure. A new gang leader had suddenly appeared, and he knew their way around quite well.

"I think I'll solve this problem for you." The leader said, smiling ominously. "You have no escape from this anymore."

The Sudden Change

Then something happened that no one expected. The leader pulled out his gun to face Marco, but suddenly, a loud noise rang out. A small device that one of the team members had planted earlier had exploded, giving them the opportunity to escape.

"Come on!" Marco shouted. "Now!"

Quickly, they all rushed to the side passages that led to a nearby exit. Time was running out, and the danger was increasing with every moment. In those tense moments, they knew they wouldn't get another chance.

Escape and New Planning

The moment they arrived outside, sirens erupted from all sides. Marco, Franco, and Salvo were breathing heavily as they ran to their car.

"We survived this, but what do we do now?" Franco asked, looking behind him to make sure they weren't being followed.

"The next phase starts now." Marco said with determination. "The next step is to prepare a bigger plan. No one will stop us now."

Salvo looked at them and said, "So, have we started our real game now?"

"Yes." Marco replied, as the car sped through the foggy streets. "This game isn't over yet, and the next phase is the most dangerous."

At that moment, everyone felt like they were on the edge of a major turning point. The end might be near, but new challenges and an uncertain future awaited them.
