Serenity hadn't sent me any messages since she left with Dane yesterday.
But Dane kept updating on his social media platform.
He and Serenity were now on the bridge in Country B.
They hung a love lock on the bridge in Country B, engraved with his and Serenity's names, accompanied by a caption:
"Today, my special someone hung our love lock with me. May we love each other for a lifetime and be together forever."
Reading these words, my heart involuntarily clenched.
Going to the bridge in Country B to hang a love lock was something I had always wanted to do with Serenity.
I had begged Serenity countless times.
"I've heard that true lovers must visit the bridge in Country B once. Serenity, will you go with me? We can engrave our names on a lock and hang it there."
Every time I said this, Serenity would furrow her brow and look at me with flickering eyes.
"We're so busy lately, where would we find time to go to Country B? Besides, that's all nonsense. Can't you be less childish, Draven?"
The last time I brought up this request, she even shouted at me.
"Draven, aren't you tired of this? My head starts aching just hearing the words 'Country B'!" "If you insist on making such unreasonable demands, we'll get a divorce."
The wish I had prayed for countless times, Serenity now fulfilled so easily with Dane.
How laughable!
In the past, I would have called Serenity to question her, but now I simply gave Dane's post a like.
10 minutes later, Serenity actually called me.
Serenity shouted her questions at me over the phone.
"Draven, what do you mean by liking Dane's post? Are you deliberately trying to humiliate him?"
"Yesterday, it was because you didn't apologize to him that he felt so guilty his heart condition flared up. I'm only taking him to Country B to help him relax a bit."
"As for that lock, it was just hung there casually. Can you stop being so unreasonable?"
I listened to Serenity's explanation and burst out laughing.
Serenity really outdid herself this time, describing her affair in such a fresh and elegant way.
"How am I being unreasonable? Didn't I like the post to congratulate you two?"
"If you're still not satisfied with that, I'll go and unlike it later."
Serenity was caught off guard by my tone. She hadn't expected me to answer her like that. She paused for a moment before saying. "You're not making a fuss, that's good. I'll come back to see you in a few days."
This time, her tone carried a hint of concern.
In the past, I would have been overjoyed at her change.
But now, hearing her like this, I felt nothing. I hung up the phone without hesitation.
I lay in the hospital for a full two weeks. During that time, Serenity didn't visit me once.
When I returned home, I walked in to find Dane in a bathrobe and Serenity eating steak and drinking red wine together.
Seeing me return, Serenity paused, her voice somewhat unnatural as she said,
"Why didn't you tell me you were discharged from the hospital?"
"I could have picked you up."
I looked at her with a cold smirk, saying nothing.
Seeing my reaction, Serenity paused again before explaining further.
"Dane felt so guilty about what happened last time that even a vacation couldn't ease his mind. I was afraid his heart condition might act up if he was alone at home."
"So I let him stay here for a while."
"Just now, some red wine accidentally splashed on him, so he went to take a shower. Don't read too much into it."
As I listened to Serenity's explanation, I had no reaction this time. After all, I was going to talk to her about divorce soon anyway, so I just gave a faint "Mm-hmm."
"Alright, do whatever you want." I entered the room to pack my things without looking at Serenity's stunned expression.
But as soon as I stepped inside, I froze once again.
My entire room was piled high with Dane's belongings. His underwear and belts were strewn across the bed, as if taunting me to the extreme.
And there, on my desk, lay a pregnancy test report.
