Third Person's POV
Mia stood still not uttering a word. Her breathing became fast as she imagined her mother's ashened corpse.
David turned to look at her, his eyes a complex mix of emotions. He walked towards her but she took a step back.
“Mia”, he whispered, “I need you to calm down.”
Mia's eyebrows furrowed as she could not understand why David told was telling her to calm down. Was she screaming or yelling out to the moon goddess? Her face became red and she turned to face the entrance of the Alpha's mansion.
The hairs on David's body stood as he had her scream for Kate. He then realized that her face was wet, was it with tears or sweat? He rushed quickly to her side to console her but was confused when he saw himself on the ground. He clutched his stomach tight and struggled to get up, his sickly brother helping him up as much as he could.
As he stood on his feet and looked at the direction of Mia, he saw Kate carrying her and taking flight in the air in the direction of the north house that had sunflowers.
His brother still had his hand on his arm and as David turned to look at him, his brother gave him a comforting smile that did not look good on his pale, sickly face.
Then all of a sudden, his brothers eyes rolled back as he clutched his stomach, he staggered few meters away from him before vomiting blood.
“DAVID”, Kane shouted running towards his son with the Luna by his side, “We heard the noise.”
But David's focus was on his sickly brother who was clutching his stomach and breathing deeply through his mouth.
“Nicholas”, the Luna shrieked as she realized the condition that her son was in.
She placed a hand on his head and realized it was burning hot.
“Mother”, Nicholas softly said, “Please hold me.”
Luna's eyes welled up in tears as she held her son closely and Nicholas' deep breathing slowed down a little.
“We should take him in to see the pack doctor”, Kane said.
The Luna nodded as she so hard tried not to let her tears spill. She and Kane helped him slowly to the house.
The noise of a starting car drew their attention and as the car sped through the driveway, they realized that it was David on the driver seat.
“Where are you going”, shouted Kane worriedly.
“I will be back”, yelled David as he drove the car speedily and was soon out of sight.
Kane's pupils were dilated and he tightened his hands firmly on the wrist of Nicholas knowingly fighting the urge to run after David.
“Kane”, the Luna called to him.
He turned to look at her, her eyes were teary, she blinked multiple times and the tears spilled and she held a small smile.
“He's not a pup anymore.”
*****
Kate alighted in front of the house where Mia's mother was staying and dropped Mia gently on her feet.
Mia looked at the house, a deep frown forming on her face. Where was the fire? Mia looked at the house closely and at the sunflower garden to be sure that she was at the right place. Did that pale blonde man make a mistake?
“Mia? is that you?”
Mia turned to see her mother struggling with some grocery bags. She ran to her mother and took the bags away from her.
“That's my girl. Now, what are you doing here?”
Mia explained everything to her mother but left out the part where she had hit David on his stomach left out the parts where she had kicked David on his stomach.
Mia's mom looked intently at the house, her eyes searching frantically but she saw no fire. She sniffed the air too but smelt nothing strange.
A car screeched and came to a stop and David ran out of the driver seat to Mia.
“Where is the fire?”, Mia questioned. She controlled herself to prevent herself from lashing out at him.
“That's what I was trying to tell you”, David said he swallowed saliva and took a deep breath before saying, “My brother Nicholas has the gift of having a glimpse of the nearest future. What he saw was not a reality but something that could be one if prevented from happening.”
“Which means”, Mia's mother said shakily, “The house might be of fire very soon.”
A loud noise from the house drew their attention. They all rushed into the house and smelt something burning from the kitchen. They rushed inside and saw that a napkin was burning on the stove which had been left on.
“Great moon goddess. I thought I switched it off before going shopping.”
They quickly worked together and put it off.
Mia slumped down and tears streamed down her face. She shook as she remembered her father's corpse wondering how she would have live if she had lost her mother too. She started crying while her mother rushed to her side rubbing her back and soothing her softly.
“Mama”, Mia called then she hiccuped.
“Yes my dear.”
“Promise me you would check on the stove and the switches everytime to prevent an accident, promise me you'll be extra careful, promise me, I can't lose you like papa.”
Fresh tears began to flow from her eyes as Mia was hugged tightly by her mum.
“I promise to live very long for you my dear child.”
