Sophia knew that if Stella said something like this, it must have been Anna's idea.
"I have never done that, and I wouldn't use such tricks," Sophia said firmly.
"It was my order," Robert looked straight at Stella. "It has nothing to do with my wife. Also, your health is not good, so you should rest more in the mansion and not worry too much about these things."
"You know I'm not well, so why don’t you divorce her?" Stella pointed at Sophia angrily.
Robert reached out his long arm and wrapped it around Sophia’s waist, looking indifferent to Stella. "She is my only wife."
"Robert, why are you trying to upset Mom?" Stella’s voice was full of heartbreak. "I forced you to go on blind dates, and all of them were daughters of wealthy and powerful families. I wouldn’t have minded whoever you married—but not her!"
Sophia stiffened in Robert's arms, but she felt his arm tighten slightly, as if to comfort her. It made her feel warm inside.
"Whether she is suitable or not, I know it in my heart," Robert looked straight at Stella with deep eyes. "What are you still doing here? Personally send Madam back to the mansion."
"Madam, I'll take you back to the mansion," David had already received the news and quickly rushed to the CEO's office.
"Get out of my way!" Stella pushed David aside and raised her hand to her forehead in anger. "Son, do you want to kill your mother? Let me tell you, if I'm here, then there is no place for Sophia in our family. You have to make a choice."
"Madam, your headache is acting up again. Let me take you to the hospital," David quickly stepped forward and pulled Stella away.
"Thank you, President Robert," Sophia said, thanking Robert after Stella left.
Robert let go of Sophia and turned around without any expression, heading back to his office.
"President Robert, are you still angry with me?" Sophia asked.
Robert ignored her.
Sophia didn’t want to keep arguing with Robert, so she followed him and coaxed, "Being angry is bad for your stomach. You’re busy all day and don’t eat properly. You’ll get sick. So don’t be angry."
Robert stopped walking. His deep, dark phoenix eyes stared straight at Sophia. "Do you care about me?"
"Yes," Sophia answered without hesitation, not thinking too much.
"If I get sick, will you take care of me?" Robert asked, his tone unreadable.
"Of course," Sophia answered seriously.
Robert walked up to her, lowering his head to meet her gaze. He could see the nervousness and forced calmness in her eyes. "Will you take care of me as carefully as you did with Anthony?"
Sophia's heart pounded like a deer caught in headlights. Robert's gaze was too dark, and there was something hidden in it that made it hard for her to breathe.
"Um... okay," she said softly.
Robert kept staring at her and said meaningfully, "If you don’t want to make me angry, then be obedient."
Sophia didn’t understand what Robert meant, because she was always obedient. She always kept her promises to him.
"I have to go out for a while. You’re free to do whatever you want, but come back early tonight," Robert instructed.
Sophia obediently nodded. "Okay."
After Robert left the Miller family home, Sophia met up with Ye Luo for lunch.
"Ye Luo..." Sophia hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Are you financially okay?"
Ye Luo paused, his chopsticks stopping mid-air. He rolled his eyes at Sophia. "You, woman. I’d love to give you all my money, but you always refuse and make me feel useless."
"I need thirty thousand yuan," Sophia said with a pained expression. It was her first time borrowing money. "It's for an appraisal fee."
Without hesitation, Ye Luo took out a card and handed it to her. "Don’t talk about thirty thousand. There’s at least a hundred or two hundred thousand in this card. The password is your birthday. Take as much as you need."
Sophia took the card and said, "Thank you. I only need thirty thousand yuan, and I’ll pay you back in three months."
"You better not pay me back," Ye Luo interrupted. "You spend other people’s money without feeling guilty, but when it comes to me, you act like it's charity."
"If you give me money, it's like you're supporting me," Sophia shook her head, rejecting the idea.
"What’s wrong with supporting you? Can’t I afford to?" Ye Luo's beautiful face looked disappointed.
"I don’t want to end up like Steven," Sophia felt a surge of hatred in her heart. "Steven came to my house yesterday, and Ava likes him. My mom even asked me to help them get together."
"A sucker?" Ye Luo said bluntly.
"That's too vulgar. Use a different word," Sophia sighed.
"Matchmaker," Ye Luo quickly corrected herself. "Will you help Ava? Don’t forget that Steven is being supported by Ning Xu."
"That’s what makes it disgusting. Steven even said he’s using Ning Xu’s money to support me," Sophia lost her appetite just thinking about it.
Ye Luo was shocked. "My whole worldview is shattered. How did you fall for someone like Steven?"
Sophia was speechless. She had heard this question too many times and was too lazy to explain the complicated relationship between her and Steven.
"What’s the plan for this afternoon?" Sophia changed the subject.
"We’re going shopping. I have a cocktail party the day after tomorrow, and you’re coming with me," Ye Luo put down her chopsticks. "We’ll pick out two dresses, and I’ll introduce you to a little wolf."
As soon as Sophia heard the words "little wolf," her mind filled with images of Robert.
She could almost feel his breath on her face, his big hand on her waist, and his deep, magnetic voice asking if she was satisfied.
"What are you thinking? Your face suddenly turned so red," Ye Luo teased curiously.
"I’ll go with you to pick out clothes," Sophia pretended to be calm. "I just need to buy a dress for the party."
Shopping for a Dress
In the luxury department store, Ye Luo, a well-known celebrity in River City, was personally served by the managers and store owners.
Sophia randomly picked up a dress with a five-digit price tag but put it down right away. Then she spotted a discounted section in the Xiang Nai Nai store and walked in.
"Welcome," a salesperson greeted her politely.
"I don’t need assistance. I’ll look around myself," Sophia said in a soft voice.
"Of course, miss. Let me know if you need anything."
Sophia first browsed the new arrivals for the season, then walked toward the discount section in her high heels.
Finally, her eyes landed on a moon-white long dress. It wasn’t a new design, so the discount was quite big. She checked the price and found it reasonable.
"I want to try this one on."
"Of course, miss."
The salesperson handed her the dress and smiled. "Miss, you have a great eye. This long dress is one of Xiang Nai Nai’s classic styles and has been popular for a long time. Look at the rose embroidery at the hem—it’s all handmade. It highlights your elegance and makes your skin look even fairer. This is the last one available in all of River City."
"It does look nice," Sophia said casually.
Thanks to her wealthy friend Ye Luo, she had some understanding of fashion.
This dress was a classic color from the brand Xiang Nai Nai and would never go out of style.
However, since it was in the discount section, she knew it was an older design.
But with her current financial situation, this was what she could afford, and she didn’t want to use Robert’s money.
She calmly tried on the dress in the fitting room. When she stepped out and looked at herself in the mirror, she was quite satisfied.
The dress accentuated her figure, and the rose embroidery on the neckline and hem added a touch of elegance and nobility.
"Wow, it looks amazing," a nearby salesperson exclaimed, admiring Sophia’s pure and graceful beauty.
"But looking good doesn’t hide the stench of poverty. How does it feel to have your mother exposed online and go viral?" a woman’s voice sneered.
