The Truth Hurts

Alex's breath felt shaky as he stared at the woman.

"What do you mean… you created me?"

The woman hesitated. Then—she pulled a badge from her coat.

A government ID.

Dr. Lillian Carter

Project Paradox – Lead Researcher

Alex's last name.

His mind spun.

"No. No, that's not—" His throat tightened. "You're saying—"

"I'm your mother, Alex."

The words hit him harder than any punch.

Alex staggered back. "That's impossible! My mom—she—"

"She died when you were three," Lillian said quietly. "That's what they told you. What they wanted you to believe."

Alex's heart pounded. "No. You're lying."

Lillian sighed. "I wish I were."

Secrets of Project Paradox

She stepped closer, lowering her voice.

"Project Paradox was a classified gene experiment. The goal was to create humans who could manipulate time itself."

Evelyn and Jax stood in the doorway, listening.

Evelyn frowned. "And Alex is… what, some kind of lab rat?"

Lillian's face darkened. "No. He was my son. And I wanted to keep him safe."

Alex's fists clenched. "Then why do I have these powers?"

Lillian exhaled. "Because they experimented on you—before you could even walk."

Jax blanched. "Holy crap. That's messed up."

Alex's voice was cold. "So, what? I was a science project?"

Lillian's eyes softened. "No. You were more."

She looked at him, something raw in her expression.

"They thought they could control you. But you broke free. You survived."

Alex swallowed. "And now they want me back."

Lillian nodded.

Evelyn crossed her arms. "So, what do we do?"

Lillian's eyes hardened.

"We fight."
